Fan Focus: Deanna – May 20, 2012

First off, how did you become a Harry Potter fan?

I became a Harry Potter fan at about the age of 10, I didn’t even pick up a book until I started reading Harry Potter. I fell in love with it and read the books super fast. It really did get me to start reading. It was just so exciting, emotional, and just such a page-turner. I found myself engulfed in the story and the characters.

Now that all eight films are complete, how to feel about the movie series as a whole? Favorite? Least favorite?

I thought the films were great, but at times I felt really let down by some of the things they missed out on. Like in Harry Potter & the Half-Blood Prince when Luna was going to announce the Quidditch match, I really wanted to see that in the film as I enjoyed reading it. But the movies were really in keeping with the books, and I thought they really captured the feel. The set where great, the cast was fantastic and stayed true to the book for the most part. My favorite movie would have to be Half-Blood Prince because there’s just so much you learn about the past & my least favorite would have to be the Goblet of Fire because so much was missed out.

If you could have one prop from any of the eight films, what would you choose and why?

The prop I would most like to have would properly be the Gryffindor Sword because it holds so much significance in the books and films. I would just love to hold it up and say “I’m a true Gryffindor” 😀

There are so many book storylines that were cut out of the movies due to time, flow, etc. If you could bring one back, which would it be?

I think the storyline I would have liked to see in the films would have been when Ron becomes a Gryffindor perfect, I really wanted to see this because I thought it showed Ron off a bit and brought him out from under Harry’s shadow.

Which book do you believe was best translated to film?

I think the first book was translated best from book to film, although it was the shortest book, it was the starting point and had to be done right and the filmmakers set it off to a great start.

Which character is your favorite from the books, and/or from the films?

My favorite character has to be Luna. I think it’s just great how she just doesn’t care what anybody thinks of her and is always true to herself. She is weird but that’s what makes her different and so fun. She is never brought down and always tries to find the bright side of everything.

Which Harry Potter event/release are you most looking forward to in 2012?

Until I went on the 20th July I was most looking forward to the Harry Potter Studio Tour, it was fantastic. I must have taken over 300 photos, there was just so much to see and do. I enjoyed Diagon Alley the best, it was just like being in the books, stepping out into the magical world, everything was so detailed and realistic.

Do you have anything else you’d like to add? Maybe a theory you still believe to be true, a shout-out, praise for yours truly?

Also, I cant wait for J.K. Rowling’s new book. I would just like to say thank you so much. I really am so overjoyed and feel so lucky. Thank you!
