Role Call: More Casting News!

It looks like we have even more to celebrate since the announcement of the Fantastic Beasts screenplay in the works! It’s only been one week since we last posted news of future projects for some of the Harry Potter cast, but this week has brought another round of casting news for both stage and screen.

Various theaters will see a number of Potter alumni gracing the stage in the coming months. Harry Melling (Dudley Dursley) and Isabella Laughland (Leanne) will be taking on the bard alongside Tony Award-winning actor Frank Langella at Chichester Festival at the Minerva Theatre in a production of King Lear beginning October 31. Miriam Margolyes (Professor Pomona Sprout) joins Neighbourhood Watch, an Australian comedy, in May of 2014 at the Dunstan Playhouse as part of the State Theatre Company. Margolyes will play Ana, an aging widow who befriends a young would-be actress. Tickets will be available for sale to the general public in October 2013. Katie Leung (Cho Chang) tweeted a sneak peek of her new play The Shed: The World of Extreme Happiness. The play will run in South Bank, London, from September 25 through October 26. Get your tickets, and learn more about the production here.

Joining a well-rounded British cast of Benedict Cumberbatch and Colin Salmon, our favorite Snatcher Nick Moran (Scabior) has completed a short film called Little Favour. He will play a character named Logan. There is no release date as of yet. A teaser trailer for the short has recently been released, and you can watch it here.

In a darker, comedic turn, James and Oliver Phelps (Fred and George Weasley) join a “pitch black” British comedy called Own Worst Enemy. The film is due for release sometime next year, but you can get a look at the twins in an on-set photo here and learn more about the movie here.

David Thewlis‘s new conspiracy theory movie The Fifth Estate comes to theaters nationwide on October 18, in which he plays Nick Davies, a well-known British investigative journalist. You can view the trailer here.

A live version of Disney’s Cinderella is currently filming in London with a tentative release date in March 2015, with Helena Bonham Carter (Bellatrix Lestrange) starring as the fairy godmother. The first photo from the film has been released, and you can see it here. In addition, the film is being directed by Kenneth Branagh (Professor Gilderoy Lockhart), and he appears to be thrilled with his leading cast.

While not new casting information, there is a great interview that came out of the Toronto International Film Festival regarding Dan Radcliffe’s indie film Horns. His co-star Juno Temple joins him for the interview, in which they address how the film is more than a suspensful whodunit flick – it is a romantic journey that defies genre conventions that was very exciting to be a part of. Finally, according to Variety, Rupert Grint (Ron Weasley) will star in an English-language version of Foosball, voicing the lead character and hero of the story, Amadeo. The project is currently in “advanced production” and geared for an initial release in the UK on October 19 at the London Film Festival.
