June 24 – The New York Times created the Children’s Bestseller list because the Harry Potter books topped the Best Seller list for 79 weeks straight.
July 8 – Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire was published, and midnight release parties were born.
July 16 – The Harry Potter books were listed on the adult New York Times Best Seller list for the last time because the New York Times created a separate list for children’s books due to Harry Potter’s popularity.
