Fan Focus: Mikayla – April 17, 2011

17-year-old Mikayla from the United States

First off, how did you become a Harry Potter fan?

I became a Harry Potter fan because of peer pressure. Mainly, family pressure. My oldest brother first read it and inspired my parents to read it, but I was too young to want to read a 180 some odd paged book when I could watch it on a screen in front of me. It wasn’t until I saw the first movie that I grew the desire to read the books. From there, I was no longer a muggle.

Welcome back, Fourth Year! You’ve all been told the Triwizard Tournament is going to happen this year. Are you going to enter?

I would not enter the Triwizard Tournament, personally. I’m not athletically built so I would be annihilated by a dragon or even a Pygmy Puff by the first round.

Congratulations! You’ve been chosen as the Champion for your school! What special skill do you plan to use to make it through?

I bet I would be great at Charms, since I’m oh-so-charming. That’s probably the only way I could save my life.

The Yule Ball is coming up and you don’t have a date! Who are you going to ask and why?

Oliver Wood is my Scottish obsession. I don’t know how I’d catch his attention off his broomstick, but I would find a way to “soar” into his heart.

You’re in the Final Task, The Maze. Which obstacles are easiest for you to pass; complicated wand movements & spells, clever riddles, or the rare and confusing?

I’m assuming the spells, because I was terrible at the riddle in the 4th book. It only worked for Harry because he says “er” every third sentence.

You’ve made it all the way through, and, wow! You even won! What super special Wizarding item do you spend your Galleons on?

I would definitely spend my galleons in Weasley Wizard Wheezes and a new broomstick. Who needs apparation when I can have solidarity and a peaceful time to myself up in the big, blue sky?

You’re sad to see the students from the visiting schools leaving. Which schools students did you befriend and why?

I would probably be closer friends with the Durmstrang. I mean, come on, the boys in the movie from Durmstrang seemed so muscular and manly. Beauxbaton girls seemed kind of snooty and reclusive. Not my kind of friends.

Do you have anything else you’d like to add? Maybe a theory you still believe to be true, a shout-out, praise for yours truly?

I want to give a shout out to my House, Hufflepuff! Don’t hate (: But if you do, we’re so kind, we’ll probably forgive you.
