Emma Watson to Co-Host Special Event for UN Women Campaign

Emma Watson, who was named a UN Goodwill Ambassador back in July, is set to co-host a special event in New York City for the United Nations HeForShe campaign.

HeForShe aims to encourage people, especially men, to speak up for women’s rights and equality. Advocates around the world have already begun adding their voices to this campaign, and a number of their videos of support can be viewed on the campaign’s YouTube page.

The UN describes the event, which will take place on September 20, as follows:

The special event will bring together gender experts, government officials, senior United Nations officials, civil society organizations and HeForShe celebrity champions and role models to discuss the central role of men and boys in the achievement of gender equality and to raise awareness that the support of women’s rights is a moral, social and economic imperative for humanity.

The event is only open to UN-accredited media but will be streamed live right here. The struggle for equality for women is one that occurs daily around the world, and taking a moment to check out this campaign, either on their website or via the live webcast on September 20, is definitely worth your time.
