Fan Art of the Week: A tribute to mothers

Most people’s Harry Potter tattoos show direct representation of the series. However, when fans are able to connect a personal meaning to beloved quotes and images of the series, it adds another dimension to the tattoo. We present to you a submission, given to us by Ashley, that has a deep story behind it. A few years ago, Ashley wished to acquire a tattoo that would commemorate her love for Harry Potter, but subtly. Then she remembered a favorite quote of her’s from Sorcerer’s Stone.

To have been loved so deeply, even though the person who loved us is gone, will give us some protection forever.” – Dumbledore to Harry (SS 299)

The quote encircles two symbols that give tribute to mothers. The yellow butterfly is in honor of Ashley’s own mother, who passed away from cancer when Ashley was 16. The purple lily flower signifies Harry’s mother.

Staff member’s notes: I just love the story behind all of the components in this tattoo. The colors draw your eyes to the middle at first, and then you notice the beautifully, wispy words. All of the elements tie into each other nicely.
