“Fantastic Beasts” Roundup: Castings and Character Names Revealed!

by Sophie Reid · December 13, 2015

In this week of our Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them roundup, we’ve got plenty of new castings to share with you. It seems that the team behind the film is still adding more faces to the cast, and this week there are plenty of them to share with you, as well as some of the roles for cast members we’ve known about for a while.

French actress Fanny Carbonnel has been cast as Tina (Katherine Waterston) and Queenie’s (Alison Sudol) mother. The actress if very young, which prompts questions as to whether she is appearing in a flashback scene of sorts!

This week, Fanny also visited the Warner Bros. Studio Tour London – The Making of Harry Potter, following in the footsteps of actress Alison Sudol and actor Jon Voight, who were there last week.

British actor Jason Newell has been cast as Sasquatch, a creature that has been described as a yeti. The yeti is one of the many fantastic beasts that appears in the original Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them book.

On his Twitter, he stated that he was extremely excited to be a part of the Harry Potter world but that his prosthetic and costume were still being developed.

In other casting news:

Lobna Futers has been cast as a witch.

Jennie Luke, whose other credited role is in the upcoming Beauty and the Beast with Emma Watson and Emma Thompson, has been cast as a MACUSA receptionist.

Comedian Lucie Pohl has been cast as a secretary.

Two “Auras” have reportedly been cast: Andreea Paduraru and Geeta Vij. Geeta’s page describes the aura as “magical CSI police.”

Dominic Wong was cast as a MACUSA lobby worker and High Wizard.

Some character names of existing cast members have also been confirmed by Warner Bros., who released an official synopsis this week.

Colin Farrell’s character, previously just known as Graves, is called Percival Graves.

Jon Voight’s character is called Henry Shaw, Jr.

Ron Perlman’s character is called Gnarlack.

Carmen Ejogo’s character is called Seraphina.

And of course that leads us onto the biggest news of the week. Get your wands ready because we just learned that next Tuesday, Warner Bros. will be releasing an announcement trailer. Tune in on Tuesday, December 15 to find out what that entails.

Finally, in other news, it’s been a big week for Fantastic Beasts leading man Eddie Redmayne. Not only did he attend the premiere of his latest film, The Danish Girl, but he’s also already received a number of nominations for his role as Lili. This week, it was announced that Eddie has been nominated for Leading Actor by the SAG Awards and the Golden Globes. Watch this space to see if he’ll be triumphant come January.

We’re sure there are plenty more nominations for Eddie to come – but we have to say, we’re particularly excited to see what’s in store for us next Tuesday from Warner Bros.! While you’re waiting, catch up with the official synopsis here.

And one more thing: If you’re an experienced Creature Animator, then take a look at this role that is available at Leavesden.

I'm looking for a very experienced Creature Animator to start ASAP at Warner Brothers Studio in Leavesden, UK…. https://t.co/cvkfhQ4A18

“I know what you are known as. But to me, I’m afraid, you will always be Tom Riddle. It is one of the irritating things about old teachers. I am afraid that they never quite forget their charges’ youthful beginnings.”
