Which Wizarding World Characters Would the “Crimes of Grindelwald” Cast Like to Be?

by Gretchen Roesch · July 22, 2018

Following the Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald panel at San Diego Comic-Con, the cast of the upcoming movie sat down with Entertainment Weekly to answer some questions. We’ve seen the amazing new trailer, and the cast dished to EW a bit about their characters. Following some serious questions, the interviewer ended with a fun one: “If you could be any character in the whole Harry Potter universe, who would you like to be?”

Claudia Kim (Unnamed Maledictus) answered first.

Hmm. He-Who-Must-Not-Be-Named? Is that too ambitious?

Everyone gasped and laughed, and Ezra Miller (Credence) replied, “No, and honestly, you would slay that.”

Callum Turner (Theseus Scamander) answered next.

I’d love to be Snape.

Ezra Miller, cosplaying as Toadette, answered next:

Dobby the house-elf.

Jude Law (Dumbledore) laughed and said, “This is so revealing. This is like psychotherapy. Who are you really?”

Alison Sudol (Queenie Goldstein) had a surprising answer:

Hagrid. It’s an odd choice. I’d have to have some help, but…

“We’ll do it in post,” interrupted Ezra Miller.

Next it was Dan Fogler’s (Jacob Kowalski) turn, which resulted in a wonderful Jason Isaacs as Lucius Malfoy impression.

Maybe Malfoy Senior so I can go around calling people ‘filthy Muggles.’

Katherine Waterston (Tina Goldstein) chose a surprising Fantastic Beasts character.

I have a soft spot for Pickett, and I think it would be a good job too, because you just kind of chill in somebody’s pocket. You don’t have to learn any lines.

Jude Law chose a character we definitely could see him embodying in the original Potter movies.

I always liked Sirius Black. But maybe that’s just because he’s Gary Oldman, just the coolest dude.

Zoë Kravitz (Leta Lestrange) had to choose a certain character.

[Bellatrix.] Family. Keep it in the family.

Last, but not least, Eddie Redmayne’s (Newt Scamander) gave his answer:

I was asked this morning and said Hagrid, but given Ali has taken Hagrid, I would actually quite like to be McGonagall. Kind of for the same reason Jude said. I just think that I want to be Maggie Smith. It looks like she has so much fun. Although I can’t do a Scottish accent.

Ezra Miller then requested Redmayne give them a taste of what his McGonagall would be like. It is amazing. Watch everyone answer here and stay tuned for more Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald news!
