John Williams will return to score new “Star Wars” film

A lot of excitement was shed last week when the cast announcement was made for the upcoming Star Wars film, Domhnall Gleeson (Bill Weasley) being just one of the actors to join the team. Adding on to that fan excitement, it can now be confirmed that John Williams, composer of the rest of the Star Wars saga, and of course composer of the first three Harry Potter films, is set to return once more and work his magic (pardon the pun) on the new film’s score.

When you think of Star Wars, apart from the original film’s main actors (Harrison Ford, Mark Hamill and Carrie Fisher), people immediately think of the famous theme tune. Like the Harry Potter theme, you can’t help but hum along to the memorable music every time you hear it or watch the saga’s opening credits, so it’s only fitting that Williams returns to help make Episode VII come to life. Under the Gun Review also agrees with the importance of Williams being asked to once again create the music for the newest Star Wars feature, stating,

Williams’s music is one of the primary reasons for Star Wars‘s enduring appeal, and his scores for both the original and prequel trilogies rank among the most well-known film music ever composed. He took the universe created by the films and filled it with such evocative, sweeping, breathtaking music that it felt complete – whole and broad and real, with history and culture as powerful as any inhabiting ours. Here were the great tales and legends and heroes, and each one had their own songs.

Apart from the opening theme, “‘Duel of the Fates’ and ‘Battle of the Heroes’ are two of the most well-known of all the pieces in the films,” not forgetting “The Imperial March” (the theme of Darth Vadar), of course.
