“Potter” alumni win big at the British Independent Film Awards

Last week, we posted the nominees for the 17th annual Moët British Independent Film Awards. Tonight, the awards were held in London, and a number of Potter alumni emerged victorious. Let’s take a look at the tweets from the award ceremony as well as pictures from the red carpet!

Firstly, Brendan Gleeson (Alastor “Mad-Eye” Moody) took home the award for Best Actor for his role in Calvary.

In addition, Imelda Staunton (Dolores Umbridge) was presented with the award for Best Supporting Actress for her role in Pride.

The film, which co-starred Bill Nighy (Rufus Scrimgeour) and Jessie Cave (Lavender Brown), won two other awards: Andrew Scott picked up the Best Supporting Actor Award, and the film itself was given the highest accolade of the night, winning for Best British Independent Film.

Emma Thompson (Sybill Trelawney) accepted the coveted Richard Harris (Albus Dumbledore) Award for outstanding contribution by an actor to British film from Harris’s son, Jared, who also spoke about his father before presenting the award.

There were also wins for Gugu Mbatha-Raw, who won for Best Actress in Belle, starring Tom Felton (Draco Malfoy), and for Frank, starring Domhnall Gleeson (Bill Weasley), in the Screenplay and Technical Achievement categories.
