Middle School in Canada engages in awesome “Harry Potter” week – MuggleNet contributes with special guest

Last Friday, Riverview Middle School in New Brunswick, Canada, started a week-long journey of celebrating the Harry Potter series throughout the school and classrooms by holding a Sorting Hat ceremony in their “Great Hall.” The celebrations will continue this entire week, with teachers using the Harry Potter series to help teach their subjects in a very unique way as well as dressing up for the occasion.

Over 100 volunteers helped transform the cafeteria into an amazing scene with over 250 “floating” candles, house banners, a Headmaster’s podium, and teachers head table. There were even gargoyles and candelabras, as well as portals installed in every washroom. All of these details were envisioned and planned by the Headmaster of the event, teacher Armand Doucet:

And at the end of the night we thought to ourselves, ‘We hope they’ll love it’ because we saw it, and it looked brilliant. To see them come in and just their faces lit up and how excited they were this morning gave us the energy necessary to carry on this week.

Prior to the event, Headmaster Doucet contacted us at MuggleNet to see if we could offer any “special” contribution to the school. We contacted our friend Ellie Darcey-Alden – who portrayed Young Lily Evans in Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows – Part 2 – and she agreed to kick off the Sorting Hat ceremony with a special video.

Ellie will also be doing a live Q&A with the students of the winning house at the end of the week.
