REVIEW: Harry Potter Sixth Scale Figure by Star Ace Toys Ltd. from Sideshow Collectibles

With the Harry Potter series over and Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them not yet cast, I’m sure I can’t be the only Potterhead who feels that my collection of magical memorabilia maybe isn’t what it used to be. When I was offered the opportunity to review a collectible figure of Harry Potter, courtesy of Sideshow Collectibles, I jumped at the opportunity. Now that Harry has arrived, I can share with you that I am smitten with the Harry Potter Sixth Scale Figure by Star Ace Toys Ltd.

FROM THE BOX

Straight out of the box, I was impressed. Actually, I was pretty impressed with the box itself because this is the first thing that greeted me upon pulling away a layer of brown paper:

I was actually so excited about the box, in fact, that I didn’t realize that it also has a little window flap (which is why the box is already opened in the next photo). I wanted to make sure you all got a good view of Harry before I removed him from his box:

As you might have noticed in that last photo, there is a plastic blag sitting below the flap. That bag is full of the parts for Harry’s stand, which also came in his box but more on that later.

THE FIGURE

The Sideshow Collectibles website states that the figure is an

[a]uthentic and detailed fully realized likeness of Harry Potter in the movie Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone,

and I am pleased to say that it did not disappoint.

Even with the glare of the plastic covering him, the fact that “[e]ach head sculpt is specially hand-painted” was obvious:

The figure really is like a little Daniel Radcliffe, fully dressed in his Gryffindor robes.

THE PROPS

Harry also comes with a number of props. His Nimbus 2000, a Golden Snitch, the Hogwarts Sorting Hat, Hedwig, his wand, and the Sorcerer’s Stone are all there. (There’s also a little golden wire used for displaying the Snitch.) The figure also comes with additional hands for Harry so that he can interact with his props. Here’s a better look at them:

The hands were actually really intimidating to me because I was scared that I was going to end up damaging the figure by popping his hands on and off. Harry’s joints are articulated, so it takes a bit of effort to get the hands at the right angle to attach them to his wrist. He’s not as fragile as I thought he would be, though. (As far as the durability of the props goes, you can’t tell by the photo, but the Golden Snitch has wings that are paper thin.)

What took me the longest out of the entire review was putting the stand together. The pieces are clear, and two of them are very, very small. Do not lose them! My only gripe about this figure is that has a few very small parts, none of which you will enjoy losing on your carpet.

DETAILS

Once I had assembled Harry’s stand, the only thing left to do was for me to show him off a little. I took a few photos of specific details that I felt weren’t fully appreciated in the official gallery from Sideshow, including the color of the Sorcerer’s Stone. (In real life, it’s dark red and not amber.) My personal favorite is the Nimbus 2000:

OVERALL

In all, I would say that the Harry Potter Sixth Scale Figure by Star Ace Toys Ltd. is the closest representation of the actor that I’ve seen of any Harry Potter product so far. I can’t stress enough how gorgeous the figure is in person. The detail is straight from the film, and I was surprised by just how lifelike everything about the the figure is. The Golden Snitch really does look like it could take off and fly away! For only $185.00, this Harry Potter figure is definitely one to add to your collection.
