Role Call: The Doctor Will See You Now

by Aimee Krenz · November 15, 2015

There are many projects that the cast of Harry Potter tackle that get us excited. This week, David Tennant’s new Netflix series has us completely geeking out, while a few other roles have piqued our interest but remain shrouded in mystery. Take a look at what’s coming up for your favorite Potter cast members!

We told you recently that Alan Rickman‘s (Severus Snape) The Limehouse Golem had begun filming, and now we can reveal that another Potter actor has joined the cast! Bill Nighy (Rufus Scrimgeour) was seen on-set of the period piece, although his character in the film is not yet known. Here’s a photo that was taken of the actor as he made his way to set:

Nighy is also set to star in a monster flick, Okja, by Snowpiercer director Bong-Joon ho, which will debut on Netflix. The project is expected to begin filming next April in both the US and Korea, with a release date sometime in 2017. The director told Variety that while the film is about a monster, it’s a kind one, saying,

It is a bulky animal, but with a mild and kind spirit. The film is about a warm friendship between a country girl and a brute with stories. To me, the crazy world surrounding Okja and the girl looks more like a monster. I want to depict the two characters’ bizarre journey and adventure across the tough world in an original fashion.

One of our favorite actresses has joined a special holiday campaign for Burberry, celebrating the 15 year anniversary of Billy Elliot. Julie Walters (Molly Weasley), who starred in the film as Billy’s ballet teacher, is featured in the Christmas advertisement for the company as they recreate the feeling of the original film. Take a look at the video below, along with a glittering photo of Julie:

Sir John Hurt (Garrick Ollivander) has recorded a voice-over for a proof of concept piece called Ayame, which is a prologue to a science fiction flick that chronicles the possible extinction of mankind. While he provides the voice-over for the video, we do not have confirmation that he has a part in the film. Take a look at the clip here:

For fans of Gary Oldman (Sirius Black) outside of the Potterverse, it should come as no surprise that he can play a villain well. He’ll get the chance to play the bad guy once again as it was announced that Oldman has signed on to star opposite Ryan Reynolds in a new action picture, Hitman’s Bodyguard. Here’s the plot of the film from the Hollywood Reporter, which is scheduled to begin filming this April:

The film centers on the world’s top protection agent (Reynolds) who has a new client: a hit man who has come in from the cold. They’ve been on opposite ends of a bullet for years and hate one another. Now they’re stuck together and have 24 hours to get to the Hague.

We’ve seen a lot of coverage on the new Netflix series, Jessica Jones, starring David Tennant (Barty Crouch, Jr.) as villain Dr. Zebidiah Kilgrave, aka The Purple Man. A few new stills were released via the Jessica Jones Facebook page, which you can see here. A trailer for the series, which premieres this week on November 20, was also released by Marvel via Twitter. We’re not geeking out. Nope, not at all.

Toby Jones (voice of Dobby) is taking on the role of a banker in his latest project, Capital. BBC released a Q&A with the cast of the drama, which follows citizens in South London as real estate prices soar and threatening postcards mysteriously appear to those who live on Pepys Road. Here’s the synopsis of the project, which also stars Gemma Jones (Madam Pomfrey):

The denizens of Pepys Road include investment banker Roger (Toby Jones), rubbing his hands in anticipation of his £1m bonus, and OAP Petunia (Gemma Jones), who has lived her entire life on Pepys Road and who is now contemplating death in the house in which she was born. One day, the street’s residents all receive an anonymous postcard through their front doors bearing a simple message: ‘We Want What You Have’. Who is behind the anonymous hate campaign? And what do they want?

In the Q&A, Toby reveals more about his character:

Roger isn’t an evil banker, he’s a slightly complacent banker. He’s become used to a certain way of life and has a self-imposed pressure to live that way. What really attracted me to the part was that he’s a very well educated, functioning human being on one level, who has obeyed the rules and earned a lot of money, but on another level something is happening to him internally that he doesn’t have the language to articulate. Something is shifting and changing within him, and what happens to him in the story makes him realise that his life is not all it might be. It’s a creeping dissatisfaction, a creeping sense of loss and directionlessness. He has no way of expressing that or even understanding it himself.

Last week, we brought you the trailer for Alice: Through the Looking Glass, which stars a number of former Potter cast members. Disney also released character posters, including one of Helena Bonham Carter‘s (Bellatrix Lestrange) character, Iracebeth. Take a look!

The talent show hosted by Warwick Davis (Professor Flitwick/Griphook), Planet’s Got Talent, is set to return to televisions next year! Airing in 69 territories around the world, the show has been picked up for a second season, which will air six episodes beginning in early 2016. Here’s what the busy Warwick had to say to Digital Spy about returning to the series:

I’m delighted to be returning to Planet’s Got Talent. The world is full of amazing acts – some funny and inspiring, others odd and outright bonkers – but all entertaining. I love being able to celebrate each and every one of them again on Planet’s Got Talent.

Finally, Jason Isaacs (Lucius Malfoy) is set to read for charity at Macmillan Cancer Support’s Christmas Carol Concert at Guard’s Chapel on December 3 in London. Proceeds from the concert will go to supporting people with cancer and more information about the event can be found here.

That’s all for this week’s Casting News! Will you be watching Jessica Jones, or are you hoping to drive away the winter blues with Warwick Davis in Planet’s Got Talent? Tell us which project has you most excited by adding your thoughts to our Comments Section below. We want to know what you think!
