Stephen Fry to be Honored with Rose d’Or Lifetime Achievement Award!

We all know and love presenter, actor, and comedian Stephen Fry as the voice of the British Harry Potter audiobooks that kept us company through our childhoods (and now). So we’re delighted to learn that Fry will be awarded a Rose d’Or Lifetime Achievement Award this coming December.

The Rose d’Or Awards celebrate a range of creative work from across Europe and

is a collection of awards presented for achievement in television and radio entertainment programming for the previous year.

Award ceremonies in the past have taken place all over Europe. The 2014 ceremony was held in Berlin, while the 2015 one will take place in London next month.

The Lifetime Achievement Award itself

honours and recognises those who have made an outstanding contribution to  broadcast entertainment throughout their careers – making Fry a clear choice for 2015.

Fry spoke earlier this week about the honor and how delighted he is to be receiving such a prestigious award:

It does mean a lot. Since I can remember watching television, the Golden Rose of Montreux, and occasionally Lucerne, really meant something, and it’s always gone out of its way to recognise this particular kind of television, so if they’ve honoured me, then I feel exactly that – honoured.

It will not be the first time that Fry has stepped up to receive an award at the Rose d’Or Awards. He previously picked up an award for his role as host of BBC panel show QI back in 2006. But this award is a little bit more special. Other familiar names have also received Rose d’Or awards – including Zoë Wanamaker (Madam Rolanda Hooch), who picked up awards for her role in sitcom My Family in 2005 and 2009.

The Media Director at the European Broadcasting Union said,

Stephen Fry represents all that is best about entertainment broadcasting in the UK, throughout Europe and across the globe.  Not only has he entertained generations and made us laugh, [but] he has also, through his documentary work, shone light on challenging issues such as mental health. It’s only fitting that the industry will show its appreciation for him in London on December 9th [sic] with an award that represents the gold standard.

This year’s awards ceremony will take place in London on December 9. Registrations are still open for ticket purchases if you’re interested in attending.
