Romance, Humor, and Darkness, Oh My! “Fantastic Beasts” May Remind You of “Goblet of Fire”

by Kayla Hoyet · November 19, 2015

In an exclusive interview with Entertainment Weekly, David Heyman, executive producer of the upcoming and eagerly anticipated Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them, compared the Harry Potter spin-off to Goblet of Fire, the fourth film in the franchise. The comparison to Goblet of Fire is certainly timely, just as the film celebrates the tenth anniversary of its release date today. Heyman is quoted in the Entertainment Weekly interview as saying,

[Fantastic Beasts has] got the charm of the fourth […] Mike talked about the fourth as being like an Indian musical — and it’s not that, but it’s got the humor of of that film. It has the romantic comedy, that fish-out-of-water humor, that very human, natural character comedy.

Fantastic Beasts is directed by David Yates, the same man who directed the final four Harry Potter films. While fans will have to wait until next year to see Fantastic Beasts, it’s promised to be a fabulous new adventure.

On top of his comparison of the upcoming film, Heyman had this to say about Yates:

David is always looking for truthful, human moments. It’s never just a gag; he’s grounding [the storytelling moments] in a reality. [Beasts] is very funny, it’s got a big heart, and there’s darkness too.

We’ll have to wait until Fantastic Beasts hits theaters in 2016 to find out just how similar the two films are. Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them is set to be released in US theaters on November 18, 2016.
