Top Five Audiobooks “Potter” Alumni Should Narrate

by Ashley McCann · April 2, 2016

The news that Matthew Lewis will be starring in his first audiobook, Alien: Out of the Shadows, adapted from the novel by Tim Lebbon, is on the top of our list of most exciting things today! According to the press release posted by our friends at matthew-lewis.com:

The story follows Chief Engineer Hooper (Corey Johnson), who finds himself in command of a stricken orbital mining vessel after its captain is killed. Hooper finds himself not only responsible for the lives of his fellow crew but also [responsible] for the survivor of the only previous alien encounter, Ripley (Laurel Lefkow).

Hooper’s ship, a large mining freighter, is in orbit over a planet whilst servicing a mine on its surface below. Suddenly, two of its drop ships appear unexpectedly from the storm-lashed planet, with on-board cameras revealing alien creatures are loose on the vessels, attacking the mining crew on their return to the freighter. The crew must struggle not only against the ferocious predatory aliens but also against Ash (Rutger Hauer), the Artificial Intelligence on board the freighter that will stop at nothing to secure an alien specimen alive.

You know, when you think about it, there’s a serious lack of Harry Potter alumni starring in audiobooks. It would be a great opportunity for the cast to show off their acting skills because as Lewis said, “since it[‘]s audio only, you have to squeeze as much emotion from every line as you can without overdoing it.” If the MuggleNet staff had it our way, the Potter cast would star in everything! If we had to choose, though, here are our top five books we wish would be narrated by Potter alumni:

1. Evanna Lynch in The Secret Circle

Although there is already an audiobook series of The Secret Circle by L.J. Smith, Lynch’s soft, mysterious voice would be perfect for narrating this story about a young girl finding out her true identity when she joins a coven of witches.

2. Emma Watson in Girl, Interrupted

Girl, Interrupted by Susanna Kaysen is about an 18-year-old named Susanna who is trying to find herself and realizes her own mental strength while in a psychiatric hospital. We feel like Emma Watson would be a perfect fit to narrate this audiobook because the main character is such a strong female lead in spite of adversity, just like Watson in every role she takes on.

3. Rupert Grint in Charlie and the Chocolate Factory

We all remember when we first learned that Rupert Grint owned an ice cream truck. This is probably the only reason anyone would need to argue that he should be the one to narrate an audiobook version of Roald Dahl’s Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. Can you imagine him wearing that purple suit?

4. Emma Thompson in Carrie

Carrie, by Stephen King, is a novel about a girl with telekinetic powers that go awry. Emma Thompson, who played Professor Trelawney in the Potter series would be perfect for narrating Carrie, but only if she used that weird prophecy voice the entire time to give it a creepy vibe. She also just recently endorsed a campaign attempting to end homophobic bullying in Scottish schools, which is similar to the general problem of bullying within the novel itself.

5. Michael Gambon in The Secrets of the Immortal Nicolas Flamel

In this series by Michael Scott, Nicolas Flamel is still alive and well but has to fight off those who want his secrets. Michael Gambon has the perfect voice for this story because it’s gentle yet stern, deep, and mysterious. If Gambon can play the greatest wizard of all time, Dumbledore himself, then he is definitely fit to narrate this story.

Thanks to matthew-lewis.com for bringing Alien: Out of the Shadows to our attention and giving us such great inspiration. The audiobook isn’t out until April 26, but these ideas should keep your mind occupied until then!
