John Tiffany to Speak at Art School Event

John Tiffany is the Tony and Olivier award-winning director of Harry Potter and the Cursed Child, but he hasn’t forgotten his early days learning about theater at Glasgow University. Tiffany understands the importance of arts education, which is why he’s speaking at the opening event for Art School, a new company dedicated to improving arts education worldwide!

Tiffany joins former Head of Film at Creative England Caroline Cooper Charles, Chair of What Next? Generation Daniel Harrison, and founder of Actor Awareness Tom Stocks at this event, which centers on the theme of drama education. Art School will also be hosting events about dance, music, art, new writing, and schools and universities. These events will be recorded and published for educators to provide access to the best work going on in arts education. A book will also be given to the government to advocate for the need to protect arts education.

Tiffany plans to expand on the sentiment he expressed at the Olivier awards, where he said that arts education made him the director he is today:

If I [were] graduating from high school now ,I certainly wouldn’t be holding this award…It’s disturbing how the path I took to get here, free guitar lessons and university grants, is now blocked.

Jennifer Tuckett, one of Art School’s directors, is equally eager to present the series:

We are delighted to be launching Art School to bring together the different work going on in terms of arts education and explore how we can best improve and protect arts education. With…a decline in the take up [sic] of arts subjects at school and university level, now is a crucial time to work together to address this subject and explore how we can best improve and protect arts education. We look forward to discussing drama education with John Tiffany and the other speakers as part of our first event.
