Anniversary of the Battle of Hogwarts: Rowling’s Annual Apology
It is that time in the spring when Harry Potter fans remember the rebirth of peace in the wizarding world and the fresh start our favorite characters received after the fall of Voldemort. However, war – though victorious – must always come with remembrance and commemoration for those who died valiantly. It is that time of year when J.K. Rowling apologizes for killing off one of our beloved characters.
This year, the character she apologized for did not fight in the Battle of Hogwarts, but his death saved the trio who would go on to lead the Battle of Hogwarts and win. This character attempted to save Harry’s life multiple times throughout the series, despite almost killing the person he was trying to protect in the process. We will always remember this character for his loyalty and love. We will also fondly remember his progressive perspective on life that opened the door to advancement for all house-elves. His life’s accomplishments were the stuff of bravery and greatness.
Rest in peace, Dobby.
It’s that anniversary again. This year, I apologise for killing someone who didn’t die during the #BattleofHogwarts, but who laid down his life to save the people who’d win it. I refer, of course, to Dobby the house elf.
