Rupert Grint to Star in Agatha Christie’s “The ABC Murders”

by Catherine Horvath · May 24, 2018

One of Agatha Christie’s famed murder mystery novels is being adapted for the small screen and will be available through the BBC for fans in the United Kingdom and through Amazon for fans in the United States. With filming set to start in June, casting announcements are beginning to emerge, and the news is exciting!

John Malkovich has agreed to take on the role of Christie’s famous, handlebar-mustachioed Belgian detective, Hercule Poirot. Even more exciting for all of us Potter fans is the announcement that Rupert Grint has signed on to play Inspector Crome, a character who doubts Poirot’s detective abilities.

The ABC Murders follows the small group of investigators as they try to track down a serial killer who leaves a copy of The ABC Railway Guide at the scene of every one of his crimes. The story takes place in the 1930s when suspicion and hatred are on the rise, dividing Britain as the shadow of war with Germany lingers on the horizon.

BAFTA-nominated writer Sarah Phelps described her adaption of the novel for the show:

‘The ABC Murders’ is a brutal story of violence and lies, the long shadow of the past and the slaughter to come. At its center [is] one of the most familiar, famous characters in crime fiction. We may all think we know Poirot, but do we really know Hercule?

With the show set to run in three parts, we hope to see our favorite Harry Potter ginger get a lot of screen time. We can’t wait until it airs! Until then, reading The ABC Murders may have to suffice as we wait for another of our favorite famed female British authors to publish her latest murder mystery, Lethal White.
