Events Roundup: From Quidditch Fests to Bar Crawls Across the US

by Lainey Ruffner · September 21, 2018

There are a few great Harry Potter events happening across the United States in the next few weeks in Vermont, Virginia, and Nebraska. Enjoy a quidditch festival, a bar crawl, and an adults-only Potter night at a museum.

An Evening at Hogwarts

Lincoln Children’s Museum in Lincoln, Nebraska, has chosen a Harry Potter theme for its annual Adults Only Night for the second year in a row. An Evening at Hogwarts will take place on September 21 from 7:00 to 10:00 p.m. Anyone 18 or older can buy tickets for this magical evening for $30.

Some of the activities for the evening include a costume contest, Harry Potter trivia, mandrake planting, psychic readings, potion brewing, and calligraphy lessons. Attendees will also have the opportunity to create their own wand with the guise of a museum staff member in a fully constructed wand shop. Themed food and drinks will be provided by local vendors, and a cash bar will be available as well.

Grace Childress, the special events and development coordinator at the museum, spoke to the Daily Nebraskan about repeating last year’s Harry Potter theme.

We saw some other adult Harry Potter events in the community around us that have gone really well, so we decided to give it a try. It was so successful last year that we just decided to do it again this year and make it even bigger and even better than it was last year.

More than 500 people came to last year’s event, and Childress believes the overwhelming turnout was due to the undying popularity of the Harry Potter series.

It is really just something that transcends time. No matter if you’re a little kid or an adult, if you know Harry Potter then you love Harry Potter. We knew … it would be a lot of fun to turn the museum into Hogwarts.

For more information or to buy tickets, check out the event’s website or Facebook page.

Middlebury Classic Quidditch Festival

The Middlebury College quidditch team is holding its annual quidditch festival on Saturday, September 29. Not only will the event consist of a quidditch tournament from teams across New England, but there will also be a number of Harry Potter–related activities to take part in.

Some of the activities for guests will include a Harry Potter–themed yoga class, quidditch workshops, potions demonstrations, face painting, and an opportunity to have your photo taken “flying” around a quidditch pitch. Food trucks and vendors will offer food and drinks for purchase throughout the event.

The event is free and will run from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. at Middlebury College in Vermont. More information about the event can be found here.

Expecto Bar Crawl

Expecto Bar Crawl has been making its way across the United States, and the next stop is Norfolk! EpicEventz is hosting a magical Harry Potter bar crawl around downtown Norfolk on September 29. Tickets to the event cost $25 online and $35 cash only the day of the event. Tickets include entry into all the bars, themed drink specials, an exclusive souvenir beer stein, a wizard sorting lanyard, a wand, and other surprise gifts!

Participating bars include Brick Anchor Brew House, Pourhouse of Norfolk, Saint Germain, The Barrel Room, Baxter’s, FM Restaurant, Grace O’Malley’s Irish Pub, and Scotty Quixx.

Costumes are encouraged but not required! A portion of proceeds from the event will be donated to the National Multiple Sclerosis Society. You can find more information or purchase your tickets here. You can also check EpicEventz’s other Expecto Bar Crawl events to see if they’re coming to a city near you soon!

Don’t miss out on these fun opportunities to enjoy some Potter activities with other fans!
