Review and Giveaway: Win a Harry Potter Levitating GOLDEN SNITCH™ Sculpture from the Bradford Exchange!

by Helene Karp · April 17, 2019

The Harry Potter Levitating GOLDEN SNITCH™ Sculpture from the Bradford Exchange brings the magic of Quidditch to the Muggle world. As an avid collector of Harry Potter items, I was excited to clear off an entire shelf to showcase this truly awe-inspiring homage to the most popular wizarding sport. The way the GOLDEN SNITCH™ hovers above the base on its own makes you feel as if a little piece of real magic is right inside your home and is sure to impress anyone who sees it, Potter fan or not.

The GOLDEN SNITCH™ itself is about the size of an egg and fits perfectly in the palm of your hand, giving you a feeling as if you’d just caught it at the end of a match and helped your team win the game when you hold it. It’s beautifully detailed with large, outwardly-expanded wings that make it look as if it’s in mid-flight. It’s of sizeable weight, which gives it a really authentic feel and makes it even more impressive that it looks weightless in the air when suspended above the base.

The large brown base lights up when it is plugged in and turned on, giving off a luminescent light-blue glow that engulfs the SNITCH™ above it. In the center, right above where the SNITCH™ will float, is the HOGWARTS™ crest with the school motto underneath: Draco Dormiens Nunquam Titillandus (Never Tickle a Sleeping Dragon). The Ravenclaw and Gryffindor House crests are on the right side of the base, while the Slytherin and Hufflepuff House crests lie on the left side, along with the Harry Potter logo displayed on both the front and the back. This all-inclusive design makes it so that members of every House can proudly display it in their homes as it shows off a love of Hogwarts as a whole.

Both the GOLDEN SNITCH™ and the illuminated base work together with hidden electromagnets to keep the winged golden ball hovering about an inch or so in the air, giving the perfect illusion of magical flight. The set comes with a launcher that helps position the SNITCH™ perfectly above the base and keep it in flight after it is removed. Once the GOLDEN SNITCH™ is properly launched, it rotates on its own above the base, which is a truly magical sight.

Along with the base and GOLDEN SNITCH™, the set also includes a certificate of authenticity from the Bradford Exchange, making it feel all the more special. The certificate includes an individualized limited-edition number, along with a signature from the company’s Director of the Board of Governors. It includes a promise that the limited-edition Harry Potter Levitating GOLDEN SNITCH™ is “produced to the highest quality and artistic standards” and “in a limited-edition presentation restricted to a maximum of 295 casting days.”
