USQ Creates Fundraiser and Looks for Snitches

In December 2020, US Quidditch (USQ) created a new tier system for snitches. Currently, USQ needs more Tier 5 and higher snitches for US Quidditch Cup 2022.

There are five tiers. To get certified for Tier 5, the snitch needs to pass the assistant referee test and the snitch rules test and upgrade their membership. After that, they can increase their tier. A prospective snitch must submit a film of their snitching to the USQ snitch team and have a virtual review or sign up for field-testing and get reviewed by a snitch proctor.

Tiered snitches are essential for scheduling snitches on appropriate games throughout both days of the tournament. While each attending team is required to bring a minimum of one Tier 5 certified snitch, there is no maximum on how many players on a team may become certified if they are interested.

All snitches are paid $10 per Muggle quidditch game. With a higher tier, they can be prioritized for more competitive and important games at USQ events.

Meanwhile, USQ recently started a new fundraising campaign for its annual fundraiser. It hopes to raise $42,000.

[Donations] are a vital part of funding USQ’s operations. Along with membership revenue, event registration fees, grants, and other funds, donations help USQ turn our mission into reality— advancing the sport by organizing events and programs that build community and empower adult and youth athletes of all identities, including all races and genders, to compete together.

USQ had hoped to raise $15,000 by the end of February, and all funds collected through February went strictly to the new events grant program, which should cover the registration for USQ Cup 2022 for college and club teams who require financial aid. Unfortunately, USQ didn’t reach the goal, and only $7,876 was collected.
