LEGO Dimensions is LEGO’s new way of combining many fandoms in one epic, action-adventure video game. To play the game – and any expansion packs – you need the LEGO Dimensions Starter Pack, which is available for the gaming platforms PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, Wii U, Xbox 360, and Xbox One. Featuring over 30 franchises, including Harry Potter packs, the LEGO Dimensions game follows the toy-to-life format by combining physical toys with a digital gameplay world.
Aside from the Starter Pack, LEGO Dimensions offers Story Packs, Level Packs, Fun Packs, and Team Packs. These all vary in their content.
Story Packs: Offer you a new story, including six new levels of game play and new characters
Level Packs: Offer you one new level, plus a new character and a vehicle and an object
Fun Packs: Offer you one new character, plus a vehicle or object
Team Packs: Offer you two new characters, plus a vehicle or object for each
All characters in LEGO Dimensions bring a different set of skills. Some skills are unique to just one character. The more characters you have for the game, the more you can achieve inside the game play, which also means accessing new areas of the game.
Harry Potter Team Pack (Harry Potter and Lord Voldemort)
Bring the [w]izarding [w]orld to life in the LEGO Dimensions Multiverse with Harry Potter and Lord Voldemort. Build and place the iconic duo on the LEGO Toy Pad and launch them into the Multiverse. Unlock the Harry Potter Adventure World and bring the fight between good and evil into the Battle Arena. Use Harry to cast [incantations] such as Wingardium Leviosa, Stupefy, and Expelliarmus to solve puzzles and fight off Death Eaters, or play as Lord Voldemort for access to Dark [M]agic. When traveling across the Adventure World, jump onto the Hogwarts Express or Enchanted Car, and then rebuild the vehicles into the Steam Warrior[,] Soaring Steam Plane, [or] Shark Sub and Monstrous Mouth for special attacks and super weapons.
The Harry Potter Team Pack was released on September 27, 2016, in North America and September 30, 2016, in the UK.
This pack gives access to the Harry Potter Open World that contains locations such as number twelve, Grimmauld Place, Hogsmeade, and Hogwarts Castle. Missions include battling Bellatrix Lestrange, assisting Luna Lovegood, and retrieving copies of Knitter's Own for Albus Dumbledore.
These locations are not as extensive or complete as their implementation in the earlier LEGO Harry Potter: Years 1–4 and LEGO Harry Potter: Years 5–7 video games.
Harry Potter Fun Pack (Hermione Granger and Buckbeak)
Continue your wizarding adventures in LEGO Dimensions with your very own Hermione Granger Fun Pack. Play as the brightest witch of her age alongside the ever-loyal Buckbeak as they explore Hogwarts, Hogsmeade, and Diagon Alley.
The Harry Potter Fun Pack introduces two new minifigures to the LEGO Dimensions Multiverse: Hermione Granger and Buckbeak. Place Hermione on the LEGO Toy Pad to bring her to life in the game, where she can cast the Levitation Charm to lift objects and the Wand-Lighting Charm to light up dark places.
This set allows players to unlock the Adventure World to explore locations in Hogwarts, Hogsmeade, and Diagon Alley as well as the Battle Arena with four Battle Modes. Players can also build everyone's favorite hippogriff, Buckbeak, and use him to smash silver LEGO bricks with his Stomp Attack. Buckbeak can then be rebuilt into the Giant Owl and Fierce Falcon for additional in-game abilities. This Harry Potter Fun Pack was released on May 9, 2017.
Hermione is the only Harry Potter character that can't fly in the LEGO Dimensions game. This is most likely because she's depicted in the books and films as not being very fond of flying.
One of Hermione's special attacks allows her to cast a bird out of thin air and have it peck on the enemy's head. This is a nod to the Bird-Conjuring Charm she uses in the Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince book and film.
