“Deathly Hallows – Part 2” ties “Avatar” for fastest to $1 billion

As we reported over the weekend, Deathly Hallows – Part 2 passed the $1 billion mark, becoming the highest-grossing Potter film of all-time.

As of tonight, it has made $1.008.5 billion, good for No. 8 on the All-Time Box Office list.

According to BoxOfficeMojo.com, despite Transformers: Dark of the Moon‘s two week head-start, the boy wizard beat them to the $1 billion mark. The final Potter film also tied Avatar for the fastest to reach $1 billion (19 days).

Deathly Hallows – Part 2 made $66.4 million overseas this weekend and with it still to hit theaters in China, remains poised to take the No. 3 all-time slot from The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King ($1.12 billion).
