Alohomora! Week 1: Chapters 1-3 of “Philosopher’s Stone”

by Keith Hawk · Published May 4, 2012 · Updated April 13, 2017

Over in the new Alohomora! section on MuggleNet, fans everywhere are exploring the Harry Potter series all over again, one book at a time. This past week we launched a new podcast where MuggleNet staff would do the same, joined by one select person from the fandom each episode.

Today we’d like to feature some of the interesting analysis already coming out of the Alohomora! section regarding the first three chapters of Philosopher’s Stone.

“Harry’s Development” by AlbusD – A quibble addressing Harry’s growing up in the series without psychological damage leftover from the Dursleys.

One discussion in the forums looking at the character of Vernon Dursley, analyzing to what degree his hatred of magic is due to his want to protect Petunia.

And finally an essay I wrote, looking at various religious allusions in the first chapter of the book.

Thousands of fans have already joined the Alohomora! community. Are you a member?
