HPA hosts annual book drive through April

This month, the Harry Potter Alliance is hosting its annual book drive, called Accio Books! Having donated over 86,000 books to underprivileged or underserved in the past, this year, its goal is stronger than ever – it’s teaming up with Read Indeed to assist in the donation of one million books. From the announcement:

Read Indeed is a non-profit literacy organization and the vision of Maria Keller, a book-loving 7th grader who wants to collect and distribute one million books to needy kids by the time she’s 18. Maria is a huge Harry Potter fan, and she has already donated over 800,000 books. We are very excited to assist her in reaching her goal of one million books.

In addition to various book drives being held across the country, some chapters of the Harry Potter Alliance are hosting alternative events, such as Loyola University of Chicago, whose student group the Alliance for Awesome is staging a seven-hour read-a-thon of Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone at its campus this Saturday.

This month, consider donating a book for this great cause, and encourage the spread of reading throughout your community!
