Hogwarts Week to Be Hosted at California Library

In honor of the Boy Who Lived’s birthday, which of course is on July 31 (the same day as J.K. Rowling’s), the Stanislaus County Library in Modesto, California, will be celebrating in style by hosting its very own Hogwarts week!

From Monday, July 27 through Thursday, July 30, a whole selection of magical activities will be taking place for children of all ages to get involved in, which will be kicked off by a scavenger hunt (held in the children’s section of the library) and trivia game – this requires participants’ Potter knowledge to be top-notch! Both of these activities will be available every day, and those taking part will assigned to a Hogwarts House.

The entertainment doesn’t stop there, however – take a look at some of the other fun-filled tasks below:

  • Monday at 1:30 p.m. – a magic show hosted by local magician, Shawn Durham
  • Tuesday from 3:30 p.m. – craft making, which includes making wands, potions, and quills
  • Wednesday from 3:30 p.m. – Hogwarts Sorting and Quidditch match
  • Thursday from 1:30 p.m. – Harry’s birthday party, followed by a Goblet of Fire screening at 2:30 p.m.

Due to the library being closed on Fridays, Harry’s birthday will be celebrated a day early. Most of the activities will take place in the downstairs auditorium, which will be appropriately re-named the Room of Requirement for the occasion.

When asked why they’ll be hosting this very special Hogwarts-themed week, library assistant Amber O’Brien-VerHulst said,

Harry’s birthday is on the 31st [sic], and it’s been so long since we’ve done a party. We’ve been wanting to do something for a while.

It also contributes to the library’s reading program theme for the summer – Every Hero Has a Story.
