MuggleNet Takes a Look Inside the New “Harry Potter” Adult Coloring Book!

We know you guys are excited for the new Harry Potter coloring book for adults that’s due out soon – on November 5 in the UK and November 10 in the US – and we’ve got a little preview of it to tide you over while you wait!

I guess I should clarify that nowhere on Scholastic’s new coloring book does it say it’s specifically for adults, but the cover and intricate designs contained within certainly suggest that this new offering is part of the current trend towards adult coloring. If you’re like me, you may be thinking that Harry Potter coloring books have always tended towards complex designs. I remember being frustrated as a child because I could never get the characters in my Sorcerer’s Stone coloring books to look quite right – the lifelike renderings of the actors were beyond my meager coloring skills. And indeed, for those of you who’ve grown up with Harry Potter coloring books, the style of many of the coloring sheets within will seem familiar. For comparison, below I’ve included side-by-side images of the new coloring book from Scholastic with an older Potter workbook put out by Bendon Publishing International.

As you can see, there are striking similarities between the character designs in the two books, but never fear – this new Harry Potter coloring book is offering you much more than any previous Potter activity book! For one thing, the new book is also filled with beautiful, hypnotizing designs just begging to be colored. Check it out:

For another, the depth with which Scholastic’s new coloring book depicts favorite moments from the films is much higher than we’ve ever seen in any Harry Potter coloring book before. Just take this image of Voldemort dueling from the new book:

And compare it to a much simpler version from an earlier coloring book:

What’s more, the new coloring book even has a lovely section of pages printed in color for you to reference as you work, so you can make sure to get the tone of your troll skin just right:

As you can probably tell by now, the new coloring book is BEAUTIFUL, and nothing quite like it has existed for fans before now! It’s sure to provide many happy hours of relaxation for (patient) Potter fans of all ages.

Are you going to be picking up a copy?

I've been making magic at MuggleNet since 2012, when I first joined the staff as a News intern. I've never wavered from the declaration in my childhood journal, circa October 2000: "I LOVE Harry Potter! If I clean my room, my mom says she'll make me a dinner a wizard would love!" Proud Gryffindor; don't hate.
