Alan Rickman Memorial Shield: 2016 – Always
The University of Sunshine Coast (USC) Dementors, along with other Queensland Association of Quidditch players, have played the first of an annual fantasy Quidditch match in memorial of the late Alan Rickman. The two teams competing were called the Half[-]Blood Princes and the Potion[s] Masters.
To be played on the third Wednesday of every January, the matches are of a decidedly fun nature in opposition to the wants of Rickman’s Professor Snape character. The match was played in a first-to-100 points format in high spirits. The Potion[s] Masters took a tight 100-90 victory. Both teams took decided leads early in the match, with streaks of points more common than goal-for-goal match-ups. The Half[-]Blood Princes had a late surge to the precipice of victory at 90-60 until a strong beating performance by the Potion[s] Masters saw them finish out the match with Bludger control that allowed the Chasers far better shots at goal. Unfortunately for the Potion[s] Masters, the Half[-]Blood Princes managed to brew a fantastic last goal to earn the victory.
Presented by the USC Tournament Director, Simon Spann, the shield was designed and constructed by former President Alise Thomas.
The night continued with more matches after the presentation, a devastating loss to the Harry Potter community made just that little bit easier to deal with by the lasting legacy that it has created in all our lives.
How have you been handling the loss of such a fine gentleman and distinguished actor?
