Espresso Patronum! Bad Owl Coffee Casts a Spell over Nevada

by Cheyenne Padgett · Published February 23, 2016 · Updated August 30, 2018

Ever wish you could mosey on into a coffee shop and simply ask for a butterbeer without giving the baristas a list of ingredients you printed from the Internet?

Wish no more (at least for all you Nevada residents)! The Harry Potter mania is alive and well.

Last Sunday afternoon in sunny Henderson, Nevada, Bad Owl Coffee opened its doors to hundreds of eager, coffee-loving Harry Potter enthusiasts. Among the fans was fellow Harry Potter fan Shelby, who, after waiting in line for an hour, was able to pretend she was in the wizarding world, if only for an hour. When asked how her experience was, she had nothing negative to say:

There was a line outside before they even opened. They were opening late because they were on the local news this morning. We waited in line for about an hour to order. The ambiance was perfect with a thick velvet curtain darkening the room and little Harry Potter details everywhere. I ordered a Butter Brew Latte and an almond croissant. Both were delicious!! The baristas were super friendly, and our order was finished quickly.

Each table in the coffee shop is etched with a reference to the Potter books and movies, and they even have a table set aside for our dear Severus Snape. Need to know the WiFi password? That’s a Potter reference, too. Can’t make it to King’s Cross station before the train leaves? No need to steal a car, Bad Owl Coffee has its own Platform 9 3/4. This place is truly out of a dream.

The Bad Owl serves Harry Potter-themed drinks like the Butter Brew Latte, but like any other Muggle coffee shop, it also serves coffee, espresso, and the delicious-sounding Nutella latte. As far as food goes, the coffee shop currently only sells pastries and bear claws, but they plan on expanding the menu in the future to include actual meals. This truly is a Muggle take on the Three Broomsticks (minus Madam Rosmerta, unfortunately).

I know we all not-so-secretly wish we were all witches and wizards who are able to pop into Hogsmeade for an afternoon and order a drink at the Three Broomsticks with some friends. Thankfully, this coffee shop makes it slightly more possible to slip into the wizarding world after a long day in the Muggle world.

Bad Owl Coffee is open Monday through Friday from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. and Saturday to Sunday from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m.

Is it just me, or is my current coffee missing a little magic? Who else is planning their trip to Bad Owl Coffee?
