Top Seven Terrifying Creatures
Both the Harry Potter series and the soon-to-be-released Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them film feature many extraordinary creatures. Some of them are wonderful, but others are frightening. Below are my top seven terrifying creatures.
- Basilisks
Having the ability to both Petrify and kill their victims, you would not want to be anywhere near them.
- Dementors
These soul-sucking creatures are not only scarily described but also creepily portrayed in the films.
There was a hand protruding from the cloak, and it was glistening, grayish, slimy-looking, and scabbed” (Prisoner of Azkaban 83).
- Mermaids
Contrary to the magical and beautiful creatures found in Disney films, these mermaids would give anyone nightmares.
- Acromantulas
These giant eight-legged spiders terrify more people than just Ron. The description of them being “the size of a small elephant” (Chamber of Secrets 276) would give anyone the creeps.
- Dragons
Unlike Hagrid, I would not want to go anywhere near these beasts. The fiery power they possess in their enormous bodies creates a formidable foe.
- Swooping Evils
Given that we don’t know much about this particular creature, it might be a bit premature classifying it as terrifying. However, the name and uncertainty adds to the terror.
- Werewolves
The creatures themselves are scary, but the thought that you could lose control and hurt one of your closest friends, just like Lupin did, is even scarier.
