The Script for the Second “Fantastic Beasts” Movie Is Complete!

Blink and you might miss it! At the premiere of The Legend of Tarzan earlier this week, Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them director David Yates confirmed that J.K. Rowling has already completed a script for the second film in the trilogy.

Yates also spoke briefly about the difference between working on Harry Potter and Fantastic Beasts:

We’ve done the first one, she’s written the second one, [and] she’s got ideas for the third one. No one quite has ownership yet in terms of having a relationship with the material other than the relationship they’ll have with the movie when it comes out, so it’s sort of lovely in a way.

When we adapted the books, you always had to leave out things that you hated leaving out because they didn’t quite work in the structure of the storytelling in the movie or the movie would just be far too long. With this, it’s just pure Jo from the first page to the last page.

With the release of Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them only a few months away, it’s no surprise that Rowling is thinking ahead to what’s next for Newt – and since this is probably the most we’ll know about the second Fantastic Beasts movie for some time, we’ll take what we can get!

I've been making magic at MuggleNet since 2012, when I first joined the staff as a News intern. I've never wavered from the declaration in my childhood journal, circa October 2000: "I LOVE Harry Potter! If I clean my room, my mom says she'll make me a dinner a wizard would love!" Proud Gryffindor; don't hate.
