Role Call: The Cat’s Meow

by Aimee Krenz · November 27, 2016

Welcome back to another magical edition of Role Call, MuggleNet’s weekly casting column!

This week, a few major reveals leave fan favorites poised for greatness, a Potter producer journeys into the dark forest, and a trip to space is slightly postponed. All that and more in MuggleNet’s Role Call!

Producer David Heyman has joined a new project based on a book series about wild, forest-dwelling cats at war. Warriors will be a live-action film with CGI cats and most likely will be offered in 3D. The book series is currently extremely popular with readers in China, although the film is anticipated to receive a worldwide release. Says Heyman of the announcement of his partnership for the film with Chinese group Alibaba Pictures Group,

It’s hard to get a film made today. I’ve had some success, but every time you start a film you start a new business, so I’m always looking for people over the world.

The adaptation of the book series could potentially end up being more than just one film as the series contains a whopping 36 books, written collectively by four authors under the pen name of Erin Hunter. Nothing has been set in stone, according to Heyman, who spoke with Variety on the Beijing red carpet premiere of Fantastic Beasts, saying,

With this, we don’t yet know if we will be working across multiple books. I imagine that we will use more than the first book in the first film. It is like a really excellent melodrama. It could be a wonderful long-running TV show as well, because of its complexity and the amount of narrative within. What is important is that you try and give it a unity and it doesn’t just feel like a series of episodes.

Imogen Heap (Cursed Child composer) has a new job! In addition to pioneering new and exciting ways to create music, Heap has just been named as chief executive officer of the Featured Artist Coalition (FAC). While the appointment to this position is for only six months to replace the outgoing CEO, Heap already has experience with FAC as she is a board member. She had this to say as the announcement was made:

It is such a critical organisation for all featured artists in the UK, and I hope to continue to help us grow in strength and collectively to bring us ever closer to a fair and sustainable future music industry.

She might be killing it as Rose Potter, but Cherrelle Skeet (Cursed Child) isn’t stopping there. The young actress tweeted an Instagram photo this week about filming a pilot, LUCID.

Alfred Enoch‘s (Dean Thomas) name seems to have been on our lips ever since the shocking revelation of his character’s death on the television series How To Get Away With Murder. This week, he joined the Shondaland: Revealed podcast team to talk about the episode and the possible return of his character to the show. The episode is now available for download via iTunes.

For those following the rise of Tom Felton (Draco Malfoy) on the television series The Flash, a huge reveal happened this week! Felton’s character, Julian Albert, was the face under the mask of Dr. Alchemy, a follower of Barry Allen’s nemesis, Savitar. A full recap of the episode and Dr. Alchemy’s unmasking can be found here.

Last month, we gave you a first look at Gary Oldman (Sirius Black) in The Space Between Us. This week, the announcement came that the film’s release date has been pushed back from December 16 to February 3. According to Variety, the move was made so that it would not open against Rogue One: A Star Wars Story.

That’s all for this week’s MuggleNet Casting News! Join us next week as we highlight more future projects from the Potter and Fantastic Beasts casts!
