Watch the Obscurus Being Created in This “Fantastic Beasts” Visual Effects Breakdown

Double Negative Visual Effects, which helped bring the magic to life in Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them, recently released this video breakdown of how some of the visual effects were compiled.

We can see the New York City streetscape being put together – and torn apart as the Obscurus rips through the city. It’s always cool to see actors interact with effects that aren’t yet there, and here we see Graves walking along green lines of tape, which are then turned into the huge crack in the street that we see on screen.

Also shown are the different stages of creation of Frank the Thunderbird, starting with Eddie Redmayne interacting with a puppet Thunderbird head held by a crew member. Watch the video below.

Last year, fellow visual effects company Rodeo released a similar video of effects for the film, also showing parts of New York City being created as well as MACUSA and several more fantastic beasts.

We can’t wait to see what impressive visual effects Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald has in store later this year!
