Non-Traditional Hogwarts House Descriptions

by McKay S. · October 2, 2019

The Sorting Hat has drilled into our heads which values each Hogwarts founder valued the most. But members of the Houses are so much more. Check out these non-traditional descriptions.

Gryffindor – Courage, Bravery, and Determination

You love to travel. You talk to strangers in coffee shops. You’re spontaneous and always looking for your next big adventure. You’d rather sleep in a hammock than your bed. You strive to be successful in all that you do – sometimes to a fault. You are a natural-born leader, and people really look up to you. You are a champion of the underdog. You stand up for what you believe in and don’t let anyone walk over you. No matter how many trials you seem to face, you continue to persist. You are resilient. You live off caffeine. You are up-front, and people can sometimes take offense to your delivery even if you mean well.

Ravenclaw – Wit, Learning, and Wisdom

You have a stack of unread books on your nightstand, but you venture often to the bookstore and come home with more. You really immerse yourself in each story that you read and always find a character that you empathize with. You love a good pun and relish people complimenting your dad jokes (even if you have to explain them sometimes). You’re a critical thinker. You are up-to-date on current events and informed on politics. You can seem odd or quirky, but that never hurt anyone. You love to learn; you would take college classes forever if they were free and in the subjects that you are interested in. You always come up with the best Instagram captions. You enjoy writing and will look for any excuse to send handwritten letters. You are very traditional and hold fast to family values.

Hufflepuff – Patience, Loyalty, and Fair Play

You are a proud intersectional feminist, and you love teaching people what that really means. Your actions speak louder than your words. You can be on the shy side, but once you get to know someone, you don’t stop talking. You live for the kind of nights when you and a friend just bare your souls to each other. You can empathize with anyone. (Some people are harder than others though.) You get emotional listening to music. You get offended easily, but you’re quick to forgive. You feel things very deeply and are loving to all. You adore animals because you know that they need love just like humans do. You love yourself, and you help people love themselves too.

Slytherin – Pride, Ambition, and Cunning

You are hardworking and goal-oriented. You strive to be successful in all that you do. You wear a lot of black because you don’t want people to try and figure you out just by how you dress (obviously). At the same time, however, you stress a lot about how others perceive you. You like to take pictures of the people you love and the places you’ve been to remind you of the happy times when your anxiety seems to be taking over. You pride yourself on your connections, and you network wherever you go. You collect things and become obsessed with fandoms quickly and intensely. You often feel like you aren’t good enough.

Well, how did I do? Do these descriptions fit your House? Let us know in the comments.
