“Potter”-Loving BASE Jumpers Unable to Leave 2020 Alone, Elect to Jump Off Cliff Instead
In a thrilling turn of events, several BASE jumpers have chosen to make 2020 even more interesting. (“BASE” stands for “building, antenna, span, and earth,” which are the four categories of fixed objects from which a BASE jumper can jump.) In the sport, a person recreationally jumps from a fixed object and then employs a parachute to land safely on the ground, but a group of BASE jumpers in France chose to add a Harry Potter twist to a recent jump.
As reported by the Daily Mail and Metro, Antony Newton, of Lorraine, France, captured footage of himself and several friends leaping from a 660-foot cliff in the Swiss Alps.
Newton was quoted in an article from Metro about the jump.
For our 500th jump, we decided to do something funny. We built broomsticks with surrounding branches and jumped together. This stunt was prepared and briefed. We have years of experience.
As a further safety precaution, they also attached parachutes to the DIY broomsticks. One member even shouted, “Wingardium Leviosa!” before launching from the cliff’s edge. After plummeting down and re-creating the effect of flying, each pulled their parachutes.
