Potter DIY: Harry and Ron Jars

by Alisa Sobol

Jars aren’t only for storing food – they can be a cheap and fun way to store your pens, pencils, and paintbrushes. Here is a fun and easy DIY submitted by Alisa Sobol to turn a set of jars into your favorite Harry Potter character.

What You’ll Need:

  • One or two jars
  • Paintbrushes – one thin, one medium
  • Acrylic paint
  • A black marker
  • Paint varnish (optional)

Directions:

Step 1: Paint the whole jar with the desired skin tone of your characters. I used beige. To make different shades of beige, you can mix red, yellow, and white, or white and brown.

Step 2: Let your paint dry. Once it’s no longer wet, feel free to add a couple of extra layers of beige to make it more opaque, allowing time to dry between layers.

Step 3: To paint the House scarf, take the House colors of the character you’re making and paint boxes at the bottom of the jar, alternating between the two colors. Go all the way around the jar.

Step 4: To paint the hair, paint the top 1/4 of the jar the color of your character’s hair, making sure to go all the way around the jar.

Step 5: Now for the final touches. Once all of your paint is dry, take a black marker (or a thin brush and black paint) and outline the squares of the scarf, and draw on eyes, glasses, scars, mouths, etc. For a cuter look, leave out the mouth and nose.

Step 6 (optional): If you want to go the extra mile, use some paint varnish to seal your masterpiece! This will keep it from scratching and make it last longer.
