Events Roundup: “Harry Potter” Actors at Comic-Con and Winter Wizarding School

Winter Comic-Con
You can meet three Harry Potter actors at York Winter Comic-Con in York, England, on February 13.
At York Racecourse, you’ll be able to meet, get autographs, and take selfies with Josh Herdman (Gregory Goyle), Guy Henry (Pius Thicknesse), and Chris Rankin (Percy Weasley).
Sharon Hall works at Unleashed Events, which hosts comic-cons nationwide, and she spoke about what you can expect from the event.
If you have never been to a comic-con before, then York Winter Comic-Con is a great place to start. It has a little bit of everything for everyone!
It is great to see kids meeting their ‘real’ superhero as well as seeing the dads showing off as Batman for the ultimate photo pose. It is all about escaping reality and having fun!
Tickets are available to book in advance online, or you can purchase them at the door beginning at 11:00 a.m.
Harry Potter Trivia
Taking place on February 23 at Tako Taco in Knoxville, Tennessee, is a Harry Potter–themed trivia night.
The trivia will start at 7:00 p.m., but you can check in starting at 6:30 p.m., with select food and drink items available using the QR code or from the bar.
The trivia is free to play, and prizes will be awarded to the winners.
Winter Wizarding School
From February 28 to March 4, your kids could experience the magic of Winter Wizarding School, which is returning to Strawberry Banke Museum in Portsmouth, New Hampshire, to keep them entertained during the February break.
Available to those aged between 7 and 11, the event will have lots of exciting activities to take part in, including a Sorting ceremony, House challenges, and announcing who has won the House Cup.
With daily hands-on activities, such as potion making, Herbology, and Care of Magical Creatures classes, it’s sure to keep kids busy during their holidays.
With limited numbers available, you need to register early to ensure you receive your Winter Wizarding School acceptance letter. The cost for members is $275 and for nonmembers is $325.
Diagon Alley Vendor Fair
Are you looking for the perfect gift for yourself or a fellow Harry Potter enthusiast? Experience the magic of Harry Potter with the Diagon Alley Vendor Fair, taking place at Books & Brews in Indianapolis, Indiana, on March 12 from 11:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.
Butterbeer will be available for children and adults, and you’ll get the chance to win a prize, alongside photo opportunities.
The list of potential vendors includes Cat’s Cradle Creative, which will be bringing its popular Butterbeer Body Scrub and Lavender Brown Bath Soak, and Weasel King Wares, which will bring Harry Potter frames, boxes, and signs.
Tickets are limited and can be booked for free online.
MPCA/ACA Annual Conference 2022: Call for Harry Potter Papers
The Midwest Popular Culture Association and Midwest American Culture Association are holding their annual conference at DePaul University in Chicago, Illinois, from October 14 to 16, 2022.
The associations have put out a call for papers that focus on the subject area of Harry Potter, inviting you to submit 250-word abstract proposals on any aspect of Harry Potter.
Topics may include, but are not limited to, ‘Harry Potter’ and fandom, children’s and young adult literature, film, philosophy, religion, sociology, teaching, or youth culture.
If you are a graduate student, you can apply for the competitively awarded MPCA/ACA travel grants online.
The deadline for receipt of proposals is April 30, 2022, and papers can be submitted online.
