Airbnb in Asheville, North Carolina, Brings Magic to the Mountains

by Elyse Maupin-Thomas · July 19, 2022

After a long day of travel, it is essential to have a relaxing and suitably magical place to hang up one’s cloak. Fan-friendly rentals of this nature have been popping up all over the world, including, recently, a house in Yorkshire suitable for Slytherins and a haven for Gryffindors in Manila. Adventurous wizards with their minds on the mountains, however, should look no further than Asheville, North Carolina, where a new Harry Potter-themed Airbnb awaits, as reported by the Daily Mail.

North Carolina couple Mike and Caroline Parrish started their company, Treehouses of Serenity, in 2016, with the goal to create unique and whimsical travel destinations in the Blue Ridge Mountains. Delighting in creating themed rentals, such as their Hobbit hole-inspired offering called Dragon’s Knoll, the pair also invested in the enduring trend of Potter-themed places. Their most recent addition, called Alchemy, was finished in February and provides Harry Potter-inspired delights from the very moment of arrival.

Guests enter the house through a camping tent highly reminiscent of the ones featured during the Quidditch World Cup in Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire. Much like the tent shared by Harry, Hermione, and the Weasleys, this one is bigger on the inside than its appearance would suggest. A 12-foot spiral slide located just inside the entrance whisks guests down underground into the main living space bursting with additional Potter-themed touches. Hogwarts cloaks hang from coat hooks on the wall, and a Sorting Hat waits for those who have yet to determine their Houses. The lighting comes courtesy of Snitch-shaped bulbs, and themed pillows adorn the queen bed and futon. Built into the mountainside, the outward-facing windows provide a view that is nothing short of bewitching.

Outside is an additional tent, aptly named Enchantment, as well as a firepit for brewing potions or alternatively, roasting s’mores. A walk-in entrance to Alchemy is provided behind a nearby boulder for those who choose to forgo the slide.

Guests won’t be left wanting for Muggle amenities either since Alchemy includes a kitchenette, a coffee maker, Wi-Fi, and a Roku TV. The rental sleeps four and is fully equipped with both heat and air conditioning as well as full plumbing. Alchemy can be booked for $396 a night.
