Helen McCrory and “Coriolanus” nab acting nominations for Evening Standard Theatre Awards

This year marks the 60th year of the Evening Standard Theatre Awards, a ceremony that celebrates the best of what theater had to offer in London’s famous West End during 2014. In this year’s shortlists, a Potter actress has gained a pretty big nomination!

Helen McCrory (Narcissa Malfoy) is one of five actresses to be recognized in the nomination for the Natasha Richardson Award for Best Actress, gaining it for her performance as the title role in a newer version of Euripides’s tragedy, Medea. At the time, the play was housed at the National Theatre, Olivier. She joins Gillian Anderson (A Streetcar Named Desire), Tanya Moodie (Intimate Apparel), Billie Piper (Great Britain), and Kristen Scott Thomas (Electra) in said category.

Also to get nominated is actor Tom Hiddleston for his performance in Shakespeare’s Coriolanus at the Domnar Warehouse – during its run, the play also starred Dean Thomas actor Alfie Enoch. You can take a look at the rest of the shortlists right here.
