Top Ten Reasons (We Think) Scotland Crowned Jo Queen of Twitter

by Kayla Hoyet · November 19, 2015

Earlier today in an article on the Edinburgh News website, it was announced that J.K. Rowling has been named the Queen.

Of Twitter, that is.

The list of top 50 of Scotland’s most active and influential literary voices was released in preparation for Scotland’s annual celebration of literature. While researchers couldn’t help but note that Jo’s 5.8 million followers trumped all of the nation’s other writers, several variables went into the decision. According to the article:

Researchers also looked at how much each novelist engaged with other Twitter users and the regularity of their tweets, as part of the study for the Scottish Book Trust.

Jo won the metaphorical crown, beating out other well-known Scottish authors such as Irvine Welsh and Ian Rankin.

Just in case her 5.8 million followers and occasional Potter-related info sessions weren’t enough to convince you, here’s ten more reasons MuggleNet thinks Jo is the queen of the internet Twitter.

10. Jo doesn’t just tweet, she connects with her fans, often in strange and hilarious ways. Like the time she saved this Twitter user from a very interesting body modification fiasco.

.@sirius_birthday That is a truly grotesque thought. I can never answer you now.

— J.K. Rowling (@jk_rowling) January 5, 2015

Or the time she made this guy’s day:

.@UTG_manchester I remember you vividly. You left without ever telling me why. Still hurts.

— J.K. Rowling (@jk_rowling) November 18, 2014

9. Even though Jo occasionally fearlessly tweets things like this at Stephen King without batting an eyelash:

@StephenKing I thought I'd written something pretty frightening today. Then I saw this and got some perspective.

— J.K. Rowling (@jk_rowling) September 2, 2014

She’s also proven time and time again that she’s a normal person, just like the rest of us. Sort of.

.@McPottah Ah, the question I've been waiting for all my life. The answer, of course, is no. I am poikilothermic.

— J.K. Rowling (@jk_rowling) January 5, 2015

8. Jo isn’t afraid to express her views:

.@claraoswiin But of course. pic.twitter.com/Galu47MT4X

— J.K. Rowling (@jk_rowling) December 16, 2014

And she certainly isn’t afraid to defend them either.

.@WBCsigns Alas, the sheer awesomeness of such a union in such a place would blow your tiny bigoted minds out of your thick sloping skulls.

— J.K. Rowling (@jk_rowling) May 26, 2015

7. Jo is multi-talented. She even has a crime novel-writing middle-aged man living inside her head. Remember this?

It took Robert a whole weekend to perfect that signature. (I let him practise at my kitchen table.) pic.twitter.com/Nlnran2wzy

— J.K. Rowling (@jk_rowling) June 18, 2014

They’ve even had some exchanges on Twitter. Like this one:

.@jk_rowling Typing title page now. Signed book for first person to correctly identify which band had song of same name.

— Robert Galbraith (@RGalbraith) April 24, 2015

6. She has a sassy come-back for just about everything thrown her way and isn’t afraid to use that sass to defend others just as she defends herself. Like the time this guy was giving Serena Williams a hard time:

.@diegtristan8 "she is built like a man". Yeah, my husband looks just like this in a dress. You're an idiot. pic.twitter.com/BCvT10MYkI

— J.K. Rowling (@jk_rowling) July 11, 2015

5. She gets angry at inanimate objects… and then tweets about it to share her frustration with us.

Of all devices known to humankind, the desktop printer is the most evil. I am close to breaking point.

— J.K. Rowling (@jk_rowling) April 27, 2015

4. Even though the Harry Potter series is completed and the films wrapped long ago, Jo is still a huge supporter of the Potter cast members. Like this time she gave Emma kudos on her #HeforShe movement:

.@wastsons She'd be extremely proud. Emma's speech was incredible. #HeForShe

— J.K. Rowling (@jk_rowling) January 5, 2015

Or supporting Matthew when he stripped down for a photo shoot.

.@Mattdavelewis I will always support you whatever you want to do, Matthew. Now go put some clothes on.

— J.K. Rowling (@jk_rowling) May 21, 2015

3. She isn’t afraid to give credit where it’s due.

.@buybooksindia GK Chesterton said that. I just quoted him. #CorrectAttributionDay

— J.K. Rowling (@jk_rowling) February 20, 2015

2. She gives great life advice.

.@itssaaaav Ideally, something that makes you happy and doesn't involve serial killing. Can't be more specific without further information.

— J.K. Rowling (@jk_rowling) February 12, 2015

And of course, our No. 1 reason why Jo is the undisputed Queen of Twitter and our hearts? No matter what she (or Robert) are up to, the Dobby eyes will always work.

@AshleyCompton_ @Johnnie_Rowling OK, but only because of the Dobby eyes.

— J.K. Rowling (@jk_rowling) June 18, 2014

Do you think Jo earned her crown? Did we miss anything on our list? Let us know in the comments!
