MuggleNet Colors “Harry Potter”

by Amy Hogan, Ashley McCann · January 25, 2016

A few of us here at MuggleNet just recently cracked open our copies of Harry Potter: The Official Coloring Book, and well, we were certainly pleased. This coloring book brings fans a new way of experiencing the magic through artistic means. Since the pages are so detailed, you can easily get lost within your own creativity as you imagine all of the colorful possibilities.

A warning, though: This is a serious coloring book, definitely not for the faint of heart. While we can agree that the details are what make this coloring book so special, a positive response to such detail was not so unanimous. One reaction to this was “the detail keeps me focused on the task,” while the other was “I enjoy the details but get easily frustrated.” Our only advice would be to have fun with it! If you get frustrated, take a break or work on another image. You know what they say—Hogwarts wasn’t built in a day.

A feature that is really nice is the color photos for reference in the back of the book. You can be as creative with your color choices as you want, but if you’re stuck on what color to pick, or can’t quite make out where a color should shift because of the overwhelming amount of outlines, you can reference these images in the back of the book to help you out. This can be used as an opportunity to give Harry those green eyes you’ve always dreamed of. I’ve always imagined Voldemort’s eyes to be a piercing red, like the description in the books, rather than the movies. I used this coloring book to correct small details that had bothered me before, and it was terribly satisfying.

Whether you want to stick to realistic colors or think outside of the box, this coloring book gives plenty of room for any artistic license your heart desires. The fun doesn’t stop here either—three more coloring books are coming out in early 2016 based on magical creatures, artifacts, places, and characters. MuggleNet even held a giveaway this past week for three copies of Harry Potter Magical Creatures coloring books to be received before the release date! Check back to find out the winners or pre-order your own copy through the giveaway page. Then, send us your finished pages here—it would be lovely to see other versions of these beautiful images!
