Role Call: Bring Tom Felton and Rupert Grint Home to Stay!

by Aimee Krenz · April 18, 2016

In this week’s Casting News, Alan Rickman is remembered, Domhnall Gleeson takes on even more work, Tom Felton and Rupert Grint can be brought home with you, and Sirius Black is about to become the British Prime Minister. All that and more in MuggleNet’s Role Call!

While many fans still feel the loss of Alan Rickman (Severus Snape), we know that his talent will live on through his extensive movie career. Fans have two more movies featuring Rickman to look forward to – Alice Through the Looking Glass and Eye in the Sky, which opens this month. Dame Helen Mirren has been making the publicity rounds for Eye in the Sky, lauding Rickman’s performance as Lieutenant General Frank Benson, saying,

What I love about the film is it’s Alan as I knew Alan. I mean he was a brilliant character actor — we see him in ‘Harry Potter’ and ‘Die Hard’ playing these extraordinary characters. That is Alan [in ‘Eye in the Sky’] as he really is: funny, urbane, intelligent, very human. So, it’s really great to see him up there.

Helena Bonham Carter (Bellatrix Lestrange) is among a myriad of Potter cast members who also star alongside Rickman in Alice Through the Looking Glass, which opens next month on May 27. The actress, well-known for her fashion choices, talks to Entertainment Weekly about her favorite part of filming the sequel in her role as the Red Queen, Iracebeth of Crims. Take a look at the interview below:

You’ll soon be able to bring home copies of films featuring Tom Felton (Draco Malfoy) and Rupert Grint (Ronald Weasley)! Announced last week, Risen and Moonwalkers will be available for purchase on Blu-ray and DVD. Risen, which tells the story of the Resurrection of Jesus through the eyes of Clavius (Joseph Fiennes, brother to Voldemort actor Ralph Fiennes) and his aide, Lucius (Felton), will be available beginning May 4. Moonwalkers, which is available for rent On Demand and also on Netflix, is slated for DVD release on May 30. The quirky film tells the conspiracy tale of a fake moon landing created by an unstable CIA operative (Ron Perlman, who has also joined the Potter family in Fantastic Beasts) and a failing band manager (Grint).

Series 2 of Clémence Poésy’s The Tunnel returned to television this week, brandishing a new title. The Tunnel: Sabotage will focus on a plane crash that takes place in the English Channel. Take a look at the synopsis of the series here:

When the aircraft crashes into the sea, killing everyone on board, English copper Karl Roebuck (Stephen Dillane) and French commander Elise Wasserman (Clémence Poésy) are faced with bigger questions; forging connections from the clues thrown up by a vast field of debris.

While his father, Stephen Dillane, is enjoying solving the mystery of the plane crash in The Tunnel: Sabotage, Frank Dillane (teenage Tom Riddle, Half-Blood Prince) is going to continue to fight to survive the zombie apocalypse! Fear the Walking Dead, the spinoff series from The Walking Dead on AMC, was recently announced as being renewed for season 3! The new season is set for 13 episodes and slated to air in 2017. The series is currently airing season 2.

Steffan Rhodri, perhaps most recognized by Potter fans as Reg Cattermole from Magical Maintenance, is still happy about his time on the Potter set, telling What’s On Stage,

Working on ‘Harry Potter’ was incredible, like nothing else. The money that was spent on it in this country, they threw every resource at that series of films and quite rightly, they knew it was a cash cow, they were going to make it all back and more. So you were treated like royalty and that was nice. And a wonderful group of people as well, the director was just so creative and intelligent and inclusive and the regulars on it, the three heroes [Harry, Ron and Hermione] were wonderfully welcoming.

He can next be seen in the stage production of Cyrano de Bergerac at Theatr Clwyd through May 7.

Two new roles are currently in talks of being filled by Domhnall Gleeson (Bill Weasley), who has been no stranger to hard work in the last few years. First, his name has been thrown in the ring to portray Winnie the Pooh creator AA Milne. Rumor has it that the actor is currently in talks to star in Goodbye Christopher Robin, which tells the story of the relationship of the author with his son, which sparked the idea for the beloved series of books, television show, and animated films featuring the honey-loving bear and his animal friends.

A second role in an as-yet untitled Paramount Pictures project from Darren Aronofsky is also rumored to be in the works for Gleeson, who is said to be in negotiations for a part, along with his brother Brian. The film will also reportedly star Michelle Pfeiffer and Jennifer Lawrence. While nothing is known about the characters, a brief description of the film was given, along with the tentative start date for production.

Aronofsky wrote the script, which focuses on a couple whose relationship is tested when uninvited guests come to their home, disrupting their lives. A June production start is being penciled in for a release in 2017.

Yet another Harry Potter star is set to portray Winston Churchill! Following in the footsteps of Sir Michael Gambon (Albus Dumbledore), it appears that Gary Oldman (Sirius Black) is in talks to portray the British icon in Darkest Hour. Here’s a brief synopsis, where the film is set,

… in 1940 as Churchill becomes Prime Minister in the midst of World War II and faces a moment of truth.

Production is slated to start in July.

That wraps this week in Casting News! It’s high time I paid homage to the mighty MuggleNet. Where to start? I love the design, (I currently favour the ‘Dementor’ layout), the polls (I actually voted in the ‘Who’s the Half-Blood Prince?’ one), the pretty-much-exhaustive information on all books and films, the wonderful editorials (more insight there than in several companion volumes I shall not name), 101 Ways to Annoy Lord Voldemort (made me laugh aloud), the Wall of Shame (nearly as funny as some of the stuff I get)… pretty much everything. Webmaster Emerson, Eric, Jamie, Damon, Ben, Matthew, Rachel, Jaymz and Sharon, I salute you.
