Daniel Radcliffe Won’t Rule Out “Potter” Return

by Callum Lloyd Thomas · June 30, 2016

Could we see Daniel Radcliffe return to the role that made him a household name if a film of the new play Harry Potter and the Cursed Child were ever made? It’s a possibility! The actor has spoken in a new interview of how he is reluctant to completely rule out a return to the Potter franchise. Speaking to the Radio Times, Radcliffe said,

It would depend on the script. The circumstances would have to be pretty extraordinary. But then I am sure Harrison Ford said that with Han Solo and look what happened there! So I am saying ‘No’ for now but leaving room to backtrack in the future.

In other Radcliffe news, the actor is soon to star in James Graham’s Privacy, which begins performances at the Public Theater in New York City on Saturday, July 2. The play, which has been described as part comedy, part documentary, part lecture-demonstration, and part fourth-wall smasher, explores the contemporary surveillance society and the personal trade-offs each one of us makes among freedom, comfort, and security. The subject matter is extremely relevant to Radcliffe, as he explains,

People probably perceive me as someone who doesn’t have very much privacy. I still feel like I have a lot, and it’s very important.

He admits to not being a fan of social media and finds having a minimal online presence liberating.

When I see my friends I don’t know what they’ve been up to; we can have a conversation about it.

Daniel Radcliffe in “Imperium”

In the film, Radcliffe plays an FBI agent who goes undercover to infiltrate a gang of white supremacists building a dirty bomb. The film’s director Daniel Ragussis said,

It was inspired by real events and co-written by Michael German, a former agent who spent years inside the neo-Nazi movement. Daniel Radcliffe plays Nate Foster, the agent. His greatest strengths are his intelligence and his people skills; I learned from Michael that actual undercover agents are primarily master manipulators — able to win confidences, control situations, and out-think the enemy, even when mortal danger is staring them in the face. Toni Collette plays Angela Zamparo, his case agent and supervisor. She’s spent years focusing on white supremacist terrorism and is really the only person out there [who]’s focused on keeping Nate alive.

Imperium is out in theaters and on demand Friday, August 19. Will you be checking it out? What do you make of his comments on returning to Potter? As always, let us know your thoughts!
