Review: “Fantastic Beasts” Pack from GB Posters

by Aimee Krenz · December 15, 2016

Amid the hustle and bustle of the holiday season, when many are shopping in stores and online for the perfect gifts for their nearest and dearest, I was pleasantly greeted with a large parcel from GB Posters for review.

The package was not intended for any of my nearest and dearest, but the amazing contents inside gave me all sorts of gifting ideas!

Inside the package were three unlabeled boxes, a poster tube, a card holder wallet, and a set of badges. Having seen the items MuggleNet recently gave away as a prize pack, I was ready to be wowed when I opened each item. I was not disappointed.

First, I opened two boxes of roughly the same size. Each box contained a heavy coffee mug, both decorated with images or words from the Fantastic Beasts film. The first, a white mug with what I’ll call an ’80s feel, had the word “No-Maj” on it. The second mug had a number of postcards decorating the white ceramic, all fashioned from the Fantastic Beasts film time period of the late ’20s in New York. The postcards beckon the drinker to come to New York, to experience a “broom with a view.”

The second item I was excited about were the badges. If you collect badges like these, you’ll know there is a difference in quality when it comes not only to the image, but also when looking at the pin clasp itself. Each badge from GB Posters had clear images and a sturdy pin clasp on the back. The badge itself was adjustable, so that if you were to, say, pin it to a corkboard at work rather than wear it, you could ensure the picture faces the right direction and that the pin stayed put.

The next item had me scratching my head a bit. Perhaps it’s just me, but a card holder listed as a wallet didn’t really thrill me. While the design of Newt’s logo on the “wallet” was cool, to me this is not a wallet. It’s super thin and a bit flimsy, and would not do anything to protect any card I placed inside. That being said, it would be perfect for a Newt cosplay.

The third box in the parcel was quite large and I became very excited when opening it. Inside was a framed print, an artistic interpretation showing Newt’s hand and wand rising from his case. The frame was solid and nicely put together, giving the print a high-quality feel.

Finally, my attention turned to the poster tube. I’d seen the posters online, but you can never measure the true quality of a poster until you can touch it.

To my surprise, the tube contained not one poster, but three! Nestled so carefully inside was a full-size movie poster with all four of our Fantastic Beasts heroes; a mappa mundi of the world from Wiseacres Wizarding Equipment; and a mini poster of Newt in that glorious blue jacket of his. Each poster was extremely sturdy – from unrolling to hanging, the product quality used for these items was completely high-end paper. It would take a bit to get these to tear, though I was still careful as I rolled and unrolled them. I wasn’t going to take any chances!

All told, the pack was amazing! The products had crisp, clear images and an undeniable connection to the films. I wish the map that was provided had some of J.K. Rowling’s wizarding schools marked, but I suppose that since not all has been revealed on these schools, it might not make sense to include them. If you get this map, you’ll have to chart your own magical adventures on it!

We only have a few more weeks left of our Advent contest, where products reviewed here are up as prizes.  Make sure you enter to win because if you don’t play, you won’t have a shot at winning!

If you’d rather not take a chance at winning products from GB Posters via our Advent contest, GB Posters has given us a special discount code for our readers. Just visit their website and use code “Fantastic20” to receive 20% off!

Thanks to GB Posters for sending us these items for review!

“I know what you are known as. But to me, I’m afraid, you will always be Tom Riddle. It is one of the irritating things about old teachers. I am afraid that they never quite forget their charges’ youthful beginnings.”
