Rupert Grint Would Rather Be Invisible

In a recent interview with Radio Times magazine, Rupert Grint talked about how acting in a film makes it impossible for him to watch. For this reason, Grint had a hard time naming a dream role.

I’m so self-critical. I can’t really deal with it! […] I think being in things ruins them for me. I can’t enjoy Harry Potter anymore, not as a fan – it’s just not the same!

A simpler time

Of the three golden trio members, Grint has always been the most vocal about his aversion to fame. To this day, he told Radio Times that he finds it manageable but would sometimes prefer to be invisible.

It was really exciting when I was about 11 or 12, but it got harder in my teenage years.

Now Grint says that he’s gotten used to some aspects of fame – especially when it comes to interacting with fans. There are still some parts, however, that he probably won’t ever enjoy.

I end up having to take a selfie (for a fan) most days, but I’ve never really minded if it makes people happy – though I hate it when people take pictures without asking.

Perhaps this is why he has no plans to become active on social media himself. Instead, he gravitates toward more tactile activities and says he “… wouldn’t mind doing a bit of crochet or knitting.” Hmm. That sounds familiar. But his attraction to knitting isn’t the only connection he has left to his Weasley roots. In fact, Grint still holds Ron close to his heart, even if he can’t bear to watch himself fill the role.

In addition to acting in two very different programs, Snatch and Sick Note (both recently renewed for second seasons), Grint passes the time with increasingly strange hobbies. In the past, he’s been known to inscribe names onto metal gifts and draw caricatures of his costars. The trend continues with his latest obsession.

What I do like is to carve things into crayons. It’s like making micro-sculptures. I promise, it’s a thing. I get a wax crayon, and I can just about shape anything into the end of it. It’s very tiny and very fiddly. I once made a bust of William Shakespeare. I do it when I’m bored, but it’s quite messy.
