Jude Law Teases Dumbledore’s Bond with Grindelwald in New Interview!

San Diego Comic-Con is well known for its bombshells, and this years’ Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald panel did not disappoint. Not only did the panel feature a surprise appearance from Johnny Depp (Gellert Grindelwald) himself, but it also dropped a brand-new trailer!

Following the buzz from the panel, the cast met with Entertainment Weekly to further tease this latest insight into the wizarding world.

What is clear from this new trailer is that Grindelwald’s strained past with Dumbledore (Jude Law) will come into play. When Law was asked about the emotional connection between Dumbledore and Grindelwald in the movie, Law was hesitant to give much away.

It’s no secret that there was an incredibly intense relationship shared by these two in the past, and this is referenced in the film. Quite to what extreme that got to, I’m not going to reveal. Because it’s a sort of twist and layer to the story that is eventually understood and unlocked and will lead on to the next chapter of the story.

He added that Grindelwald as a character symbolizes the struggle of temptation within everyone.

He sits at the very center of Dumbledore’s desires but also at the darkest parts of himself. And in a way, that’s what Grindelwald perhaps symbolizes for everyone. He’s temptation. He empowers you, but he also opens up the worst parts of you.

Eddie Redmayne (Newt Scamander) discussed how the burgeoning war will affect Newt, who is entrusted with an important task by Dumbledore.

What I like about Newt is, he’s completely his own person, so he’s quite happy to sit outside everything, but the stakes are getting so high in this film as Grindelwald is rallying people towards him, and the threats are getting so extreme that he basically has to choose a side. So he felt like a more complex figure this time.

Ezra Miller (Credence Barebone) chatted about how excited he was to explore the evolution of Credence after the devastating events of the first movie.

I was really interested in this evolution of a person who’s been indoctrinated and then has figured that out, and as someone who really distrusts everybody, it’s really interesting that Credence has no trust for anyone. Before we start the narrative of this film, he distrusts wizards and he distrusts non-magical people and for good reasons.
