“Crimes of Grindelwald” Cast Talk Similarities to “Potter” and Baby Nifflers!
The cast of Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald has treated us to a lot of new and interesting information this past week. In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, we got the scoop on relationships, new beasts, and favorite filming moments, and at San Diego Comic-Con we got a new theatrical trailer and a surprise appearance by Grindelwald himself! However, it seems that no matter how many interviews the cast give, there are still many secrets to uncover.
In a recent interview with Pottermore, the cast spoke about joining a franchise, the connections between Crimes of Grindelwald and Harry Potter, and possibly the cutest news of all, baby Nifflers!
That’s right – according to Eddie Redmayne, everyone’s favorite mischievous creature will return to the screen with a family in tow.
The Niffler is back as you saw in the trailer and… the Niffler may have babies
While the cast didn’t reveal how the Niffler babies will be featured in Crimes of Grindelwald, if the first film is anything to go by, we’re sure they will have a part to play in some of the funnier scenes!
Away from adorable beasts, newcomers to the cast Zoë Kravitz (Leta Lestrange), Claudia Kim (Maledictus), Jude Law (Albus Dumbledore), and Callum Turner (Theseus Scamander) spoke briefly about their experience joining the Fantastic Beasts franchise. In particular, Turner spoke about the nerves he felt before joining the cast but how after Day 1 of filming, he felt as though he, too, were a returning cast member.
After the second day I felt like I’d done the first [film] and felt like I was coming back from it. It’s such a joy and everyone is at the top of their game. And to explore this relationship as an older brother of Newt was exciting for me.
Out of the returning cast members, Ezra Miller (Credence Barebone) once again showed how much of a fan of the magical world he is, before stating that there are more connections between Potter and Crimes of Grindelwald than with the first film in the series.
When we made the first one – I thought I’d reached a life pinnacle. I was like – that’s it. I’ve peaked. And then this movie came along, and I feel like the number of connections between this and Harry Potter – it multiplies.
What could this mean? Besides the theme of good vs. evil, there has already been speculation about the similarities between Dumbledore’s relationships with his students, but Miller’s comment may suggest something beyond that. All we know is that we can’t wait to find out!
