Possible Footage of New “Potter” Role-Playing Game Leaked Online!

by Bethan Roberts · October 2, 2018

The wizarding world has inspired a number of games from Harry Potter: Quidditch World Cup to Harry Potter: Hogwarts Mystery, but new information has revealed that a new game may be joining their ranks, a game that allegedly would take the form of a role-playing game with online multiplayer capabilities.

The footage was leaked on Reddit after the user apparently took a secret recording in a focus group where they learned of the game.

[It was] leaked as in I went into a room for a focus group, took a sneak video, and uploaded it. This isn’t some marketing ploy.

The video reveals what appears to be a third-person action and adventure game set in a variety of locations, including an unnamed wizarding village, a forest, and areas of Hogwarts, including the Great Hall.

Alongside the leaked video was a description for the release of the game.

Set in the 19th [-c]entury [w]izarding [w]orld, this 3rd-person open-world action RPG game [sic] centers around your character with unique abilities who has earned a late acceptance to Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry.

You are a newly arrived 5th-year student to Hogwarts [who] demonstrates a latent gift for magic with a unique ability to track and identify remnants of a potent ancient power.

Upon arrival, strange events begin to materialize in the Forbidden Forrest [sic] and trouble begins [to] brew within the castle walls. Together with Professor Elezar Fig, you embark on a journey through both familiar and never[-]before[-]seen locations.

FEATURES

– Journey to Hogwarts to become one of 8 different [w]izard types

-Experience Hogwarts, make new friends, uncover new secrets, and change the fate of the [w]izarding world.

-Experience a new magic system that creates countless possibilities to master magic.

-Freely explore the [w]izarding [w]orld for the first time, [c]hoose your [H]ouse and friends at Hogwarts, and decide to pursue a path of good or evil.

-Create your own witch or wizard, and experience an all-new story separate from the books or films.

Although much of the action displayed in the video involves dueling against various fantastic creatures and wizards, the player is also seen freely exploring the various locations and practicing magic in Hogwarts classrooms.

Of particular interest is that the game is described as taking place in the 19th century. This means that the game would take place before the events of both the Harry Potter and Fantastic Beasts series, which occur in the 20th century, meaning that the game’s plot should be distinct from them.

The game has been reported to have the working title Harry Potter: Magic Awakened although other titles are still in the mix, such as Magic Forever. However, sources suggest that the game is at least a year away.

If the game is real, then it may be joining Harry Potter: Wizards Unite, a location-based augmented reality game that is currently in development, similar to Pokémon Go.

With no word yet on the authenticity of the video from Warner Bros., though they have taken the original video down for copyright infringement, it seems that fans might not receive confirmation that the video is linked to a real game. However, considering how convincing the footage is, fans may be in for a long-awaited treat.

What are you most excited about in this game? Would you choose the path of the light or the path of the dark?

Potter Quote

“She stopped you killing me. And I’ve seen the real you, I saw you last year. You’re a wreck. You’re barely alive. That’s where all your power got you. You’re in hiding. You’re ugly, you’re foul —”
