Review & Giveaway: “Harry Potter” Comes to Life in New Pop-Up and Paper Scene Books!

by Laura Hernan · October 24, 2018

Harry Potter: A Pop-Up Guide to Hogwarts by Matthew Reinhart, with illustrations by Kevin M. Wilson, is not the average pop-up book of your childhood. The artistry and visual excitement created by this pop-up book take it to the next level.

I was overwhelmed by the sheer size of the Harry Potter: A Pop-Up Guide to Hogwarts book. You can’t help but feel the childlike sense of excitement and wonder when opening the first page of this book. Lifting the beautiful cover and watching as Hogwarts rose from the flat page to come alive was pure magic. In order to take in the entire splendor of the page, the book must be turned in a 360-degree direction. By turning the book, you take in every angle of the structure and catch all the little hidden gems throughout.

Once you get past the grandeur of the pop-up structure, you will notice the side tab pull-outs and small descriptions about the pop-up scenes on each page.

After spending hours on each page, the fun still isn’t over. The entire book unfolds to an enormous 3D map of the Hogwarts grounds and includes Hogsmeade. Take a look at the book through this amazing video from Insight Editions so you can experience a tiny bit of the magic for yourself!

Based on the film version of Harry Potter, Harry Potter: A Pop-Up Guide to Hogwarts is a must for any Harry Potter fan. This book would also be a great introduction to the world of Harry Potter for the young at heart. You can read our interview with author Matthew Reinhart and illustrator Kevin M. Wilson and their inside information on creating this special book and purchase a copy of Harry Potter Pop-Up Guide to Hogwarts now.

From dragons to Thestrals, Harry Potter: Creatures: A Paper Scene Book gives an in-depth definition of the creatures not fully explained in the movies. This book is a strikingly beautiful piece of art. The 3D pictures are frame-worthy. The intricate cutting and detail of each picture is captivating. This is just the ticket for those of us who are still craving more Harry Potter and a must-have for the true Harry Potter fan.

Harry Potter: Creatures: A Paper Scene Book is available for purchase now, and you can check out the beautiful artistry in part via the Insight Editions trailer below!

Harry Potter: Imagining Hogwarts: A Beginner’s Guide to Moviemaking by Bryan Michael Stroller is geared toward the younger Harry Potter fan interested in filmmaking. While a majority of the book is focused on helping young filmmakers age 9–12, there is wonderful bonus material you can remove from the book to make your own potion bottles, potion books, and more.

This book is not just educational, but it is also a lot of fun and worth the price alone for the collectible bonus material. It is educational for all ages and a Harry Potter collector’s gold mine.

A copy of all three books was provided by the publisher for review.
